Does anyone know if thes have a toneboard or if there available yet or east to find? Someone here in Wisconsin has one and I guess its near mint he wanted $250.00 would this be worth it? I know its an all mode but to me if theres no tone board whats it good for? They guy was talking of trading me for something otherwise.

You can buy an external tone control from Communications Specialists for about $60.
Communications Specialists, Inc.

Look at the TE-32 which is convenient if you want to change tones quickly when going from one repeater to another. There are cheaper ones that use micro switches to change the tone which is fine if you only use one repeater or a couple repeaters that use the same tone since changing tones might get to be a bit of a pain.

The FT-225RD is a nice rig and there are a lot of them still in service with most of the parts still commonly available should you ever need to make repairs. If the radio is as nice as the seller claims, that price is not bad at all. My friend sold his 225RD when he bought his Icom 706MkIIG and he got $250 and it worked good but appearance was about a 7 out of 10 and it did not have a tone board.

Good luck & 73,

Ok heres the deal this guy here in Wisconsin has a 225RD that is in near mint condition he wants to trade me for my KLV550 solid state 10-12 meter amplifier. The yaesu rig has Tone board, Microphone and I believe he also has the manual.

Ok cmon guys that are familiar with this rig what do you think is it a go what would you do in my shoes I dont use the amplifier anymore and also never ran SSB on 2 meters which sounds like fun and or could be interesting. heres what the radio is http://www.rigpix.com/yaesu/ft225rd.htm

This radio is really cool and I get nothing but excellent reports when hitting local repeaters it has a yaesu desk microphone on it that apparenly gives it an outstanding audio quality from what I have been told. I want to hear it from the other end now and judge for myself. I been watching SSB to try and make a contact. Its only a 25 watt radio which is surprising seeing how it plugs into the wall and looks like its scapable of a few hundreds wtts buy its size LMAO.

The power is variable so I could hook an amplifier up to something like this but would have to look into what a goos amplifier would be Ive yet to try this 857D out on VHF and UHF I also got a YAESU FT-51R handheld dual bander that works pretty good has more range than my other HT's
