From a small sampling a local friend has done on V/U gear, Yaesu seems to be the more consistent of being on spec out of the box. The Kenwood and Icom radios he's had on the bench tend to be farther off....generally too low deviation. They work, but they sound a heck of a lot better after being set up to spec.
Again just a small sample.
Just makes me nuts wondering if the rigs I use are juuust right and the equipment isn't so cheap to do the testing heh. One of these days....
$6k used service monitor to ensure my $200 VHF rig is working right...I find it sort of funny.
I was monkeying around on APRS the other day and tried sending you a message, but you weren't on the air at the time. Neat stuff, hand't really spent any time with it until recently. Had software up with an i-gate going from the house.
