Fiberglass 2" rod ?

Use common Sch 40 PVC pipe like HomerBB suggested. Available any home improvement, hardware store.

I've got a few odds and ends laying around and none of them winds up being the right size. I'll take my calipers to Home Depot and see if I can find something.
1-1/2" pipe isn't really 1-1/2"
Close, but not quite.
I got to HD when I get stumped and just walk up and down the isles and look.
Sometimes someone will ask what I'm looking for and I tell them, but they look perplexed. Sometimes I find it and sometimes not

The PVC is measured by inside diameter. I had to turn down the 1 3/8" closet rod dowel to fit it into the 1 1/4" PVC. However, if your local HD carries the regular dowel to 1 1/4", it should fit nicely.

There are some of the electrical PVC (sch 80, I think) that are a close fit, but I avoided it on the advice that it seemed to have metallic properties and might be problematic.

If you live near the plant, you can probably get pieces that didn't make the grade quality-wise for free or very cheap.

I live over by the Hood Canal Bridge and I think the fiberglass place is GA
I'd be there in a heart beat if I was close

At HD there is materials for using fiberglass.

Decide on a core material and use the fiberglass cloth and the 2 part resin mixture to repetitively wrap your core until You achieve a diameter you need. It will be rough, but tough. Sand it smooth if it matters.

A good core might be a fiberglass rod you already own that is too small.

It's like casting a broken arm or leg.

Use gloves

You do that too hey? :D I waunder the electrical and plumbing aisles thinking and scheming about what I can do with what they have to offer. I know they think I am trying to steal stuff from the looks I get sometimes after telling them to go away and leave me alone to think. One of these days I'll pull up a toilet and sit down while thinking and see what they have to say then. :w00t:

I wrote an email to MGS to see if they had any plans to make 2" fiberglass rod.
Thought it might be of some help.

I said.....

Do you have any plans of making 2" fiberglass rods (8') ?
Is there a glue that can be used to glue the 2" OD 1/4" wall tube to the 1-1/2" rod?
Is there a coating that can be put on the rods to protect them from UV?
I'd like to use fiberglass to hold ham radio antennas at my home in New Mexico at 7400' elevation. The UV is pretty intense there.
I think the 2" rods might be popular with radio fans

He answered....

No plans to make 2" solid, but our 1.5" solid will sleeve inside our 2" OD X 1/4" wall tube. Add some 3M 5200 marine adhesive (available in the paint dept. at Home Depot) in between, and you essentially have 2" solid. That would be super, super strong.

Just spray paint the surface as described here:
MAX-GAIN SYSTEMS, INC. -- Fiberglass Usage Tips
...and it will essentially last forever in UV.

I've used that 3M 5200 marine adhesive and it's pretty insane stuff

Usually I don't go to Lowes but I was getting desperate today so I went and did the isle walk.
I did find that they had 2" Poplar (wooden) dowel 4' long in case anyone needs some.
