I had the beacon going on the FTM350AR a couple months back and my signal or beacon was copied/heard in England...

is that normal...

I would say your beacon was picked up by an I-Gate and so was seen in the UK. It wasn't 'heard' via RF but by the internet. That's normal.

Oh..OK. I was thinking it was weird my signal was "heard" from so cal in England LOL. I am still learning how to use aprs:eek:

How did you know that your beacon was "heard" by England? What were you looking at that told you that?

Ah for once I Google'd all by my self ! Lol na looked up my call via Google and lone behold there it is. Ill post the link if I can find it again.

APRS.FI is a great site for looking at your APRS data. You can tell what stations heard your beacon as well was which stations relayed it to the iGate.

You can get some pretty long links, though probably not to Europe.

I regularly see stations 100+ miles away in the Sierras pick me up when I am in the San Joaquin Valley. In fact, in the big valley and around the LA/Orange/San Berdo/Riverside metro area I reduce to 1 watt of output power and a digi path of only wide1-1 to keep from bouncing around too much.

I keep waiting for propagation ike we hade a few years ago when the "Pineapple Express" sproadic E would open 2 meter paths from SoCal to Hawaii. APRS should also make that trip if FM voice does...

I love the movie pineapple express !

Don't know too much about the pineapple except I am in a great spot for it when it is doing its thing...does it work with 15.000mhz. Time thing? Cause today I kept hearing a male voice than a female voice announcing the time it was fading too pretty odd ussaly it comes in strong without oscillation

Male voice is WWV. Fort Collins Colorado. Female voice is WWVH Hawaii. The Pineapple Express is a ducting event that happens on VHF or UHF only. HF is another matterq.

Yeah the Pineaple Express is a strange VHF phenom.

I have been in San Clemente and Dana Point with simplex 2 meters running in from Hawaii.

I once was successful in keying up a repeater on Diamondhead and was on for about 8 minutes.

Just with a regular mobile mag-mount and a 5 watt HT!
