Seems like the only thing he's sure of is that it was struck by lightning. You can listen to HF on just abut anything, but that doesn't mean you will hear it well. And I'm afraid I wouldn't spend $300 dollars on an old, used, TV antenna any way. Not when there are very good new antennas for the digital bands much cheaper.

Try all over the VHF and UHF bands. FWIW the audio is broadcast using FM but the video is AM..........well it WAS until everything went digital.
