I had 2 of them around here somewhere they are clean and outstanding!!! I know there were different Transistors used in them mine have 2SC2879 I believe but seen them with SD1446 aswell. I take it those are 2879's in yours there? I couldnt tell.

this amp is very clean. the only thing I even see that has gotten hot is one resister coming off the power switch, which is normal for these amps when used on a certain power level. that would be one thing I would change before I used it very much just to be safe.
a great find the face looks brand new. about all I see are beat up.

Glad to hear that some are still out there that haven't been molested.
I've been looking for one for a few years with no luck :(

Yes, there were several depending on when they were built
Mine had the same heatsink, silver faceplate, used 4 2897s.
slightly different in that it had a jumper you could move for low drive or high drive.
Also each pair of transistors had a jumper you could remove and the pins were the test points for adjusting the idle current on the pair,
Very well built amp.
Real regulated bias.

Nice find... Been looking for a mint condition silver streak 150 for several years now. used to have one back in the 80's is the only reason why. Came close a few times but never in mint condition. congrats on the cobra.

MOST EXCELLENT!

I know most builders of these items print a number on the front ie 450. So does that number pertain to the output? Or is it just XL 450. What's the p.e.p? Is it anywhere near 450? I do know that's a scarce item. Especially one that mint looking. Congrats.

Mine has the 454's, same as the version shown in the review on CBWorldinformer - Cobra XL 450 Linear Amplifier From Mexico. 400 Watts of pure power from this Palomar Magnum copy.

Stellasarat - in regards to your question the number does usually give a rough estimate of the output but in many cases the numbers on the case are much higher than the actual output of the amp (done for advertising purposes). Transistors have a specified output so the best method to determine the output of an amp is to figure out what transistors it has in it and how much output each one is possible of achieving.

In this case the amp is using 4 x MRF 454 transistors - http://www.radiomods.co.nz/transistors/mrf454rev1.pdf

They are rated at 80 watts output. 4 x 80 = 320 watts. Now there are other factors involved that can effect output so this is just a good rule of thumb.

These are great little amps, I picked up a NOS Magnum 6500R a two years ago, only used it for a few hours total, and nothing but good reports on air. Not my main amp but definitely a keeper.

I have one of these I would sell if the price is right. It has been hooked up once to test it and it is a high drive unit. 4 watts in get you about 100 watts at the CN- 801 meter.
