73's or just 73?

ok,.............. so is it: 73 (0ne word "seventy-three")

or 7 3 (two words: "seven" "three') ^^ ab v c^^^^ ab v c^^^^ ab v c^^

Historically, it's two words. Easily recognizable by the landline (American Morse) telegraphers. There was no "72", or "71", or "74".

Nor, AFAIK, was there anything like "87" or "89"...

Although a good female friend of mine (we both used to play in the Bremerton Symphony. She was principal bass, and I was principal percussion). Anyway, her dad had been a ham, and when I casually told her "88" after a rehearsal, she told me that she didn't feel comfortable (what with me being happily married) with my using that. I said, well how about "44". She liked that! When she sent us the invitation to her wedding, the little handwritten note ended with "44 KJ".

WTF??

Corrected for saying 73's??

I usually sign with

" (insert op call sign) Thank you for the contact, look forward to working you again around the bands. Good DX and 73's from ( insert call sign)."

Never ever has any one corrected the saying of 73's

73's worked for Hiram.
