Looking to order 50 ft. of good Coax and there a lot to choose from. In your opinion, what is the best bang for the buck on the market ? I was looking @ Astatic on Amazon but previous buyer said when he received his order, it was actually NOT an Astatic product.

What are your present and future uses going to be?

Thanks for the reply, for the time being, I'm running barefoot with no Amp, but I'm always open to a real good deal on a tube. My present set-up is great for talking skip with the right conditions, with just the Big Stick. Some days the SWR is high, especially if it rains really hard, which my coax is very old(10-15 yrs) @ least. The next day it's back to normal.

What's your budget?

Good coax ain't cheap.
Cheap coax ain't good.

Sounds like a drive to Radio Shack or Pilot is in order.

Or... Just order some US made Belden RG-8X from wherever it's cheapest.

Maybe out of my league, $60.00 for 50' of LMR 240 is enough to pay w/shipping for useable coax. There is so much on the market today I just wanted your thought. I've had a bunch of coax over the years, some good and some not so good. It's just a hobby for me now @ 72 to just set back and remember old times, nothing fancy, hope you understand.

Times microwave lmr240, don't buy the equivalent stuff, it's not the same. The belden coax that duster mentioned is good as well. The lmr240 should work fine and provide years of use. And it will handle some power as well.

Thanks for the reply. Are you saying that Times microwave lmr 240 is different than the last one you mentioned lmr 240 ? It kinda confused me. I miss DB @ Port Orange bridge eating @ Aunt Catfish, see I know where you are, wish we were there.

That's where I live, port orange, about 5 minutes from aunt catfish. Yes they make some off brand stuff that isn't as good as the times microwave lmr240. It is the same type. There are some sellers on eBay that have lmr240, but it's generic coax that isn't the same quality as the times microwave coax. Same stuff, just times microwave has is the best IMO.

And the port orange bridge is my dx spot lol. Good place to shoot skip at the boat Ramp at the intercostal!! Small world man. If you ever come back, give a shout!!

Thanks for the reply. We were just talking about eating @ A/catfish soon. We will be in St.Augustine the weekend after Labor day, we have a rental house for a week on the Beach.

I found some USA made Workman RG8 (50') on Amazon @ a good price. I just run a barefoot base set-up with an old Shakespear Big Stick/Royce 1-641 and sometimes a Cobra 148 gtl and fiddle with the amp once in a while. I like SSB, got used to it in the late late 60's early 70's and talked to a lot of good folks.

What's your thinking on the Coax ? Any suggestions where to buy ?

Times microwave, that's where I would buy from. Lmr240 or lmr400. Both will do the job and last. Forget the workman stuff, it's junk. Cheaply made. You will pat more for the times microwave coax, but I promise it's better stuff
