Special event station commemorating the 100'th anniversary of the Halifax Explosion.

Never herd of it...And it was a bit before my time...

Not surprised Jesse. New Englanders however know it well and it is the reason that Nova Scotia sends a huge Christmas tree to the city of Boston every year. It is a well known tree lighting ceremony there.

Here's a link to the Smithsonian article - might even be some Canadians who don't know about this...

I am quite glad that diary eventually was found and turned over to the Dartmouth Heritage Society. It is quite a significant account of that fateful day. One can only imagine the scene that day. Halifax BTW is only about a half hour drive from my home. St. Pauls Anglican church in Halifax is the oldest Anglican Church in North American and the oldest building in Halifax having been built in 1750, still has a piece of iron embedded in the stone from the blast. The Mont Blanc virtually disappeared that day and the only thing left of it was shrapnel and 1100 pounds of it's anchor which was thrown two miles away.

The one subject I liked back in my High School days was History. Not so much European History, like the Roman Empire or anything dating back in the BC era...But American History and WWI and WWII stuff...But very little was ever discussed or studied on Canadian or Mexico History...some, just not much...

We may-have touched on Halifax explosion and I just forgot about it tho, it has been over 40+ years since I was in school.

And back then, in that one-room school house, JJD was more interested in dippin' Betty-Jo's pigtails in the inkwell. Just sayin'...... ;)
