Rare to see these in one piece. This one is quite accurate from 80-10M. It may have been modified to do so.

Hi Jim,

Got the meter.

Sure wish I had asked for a picture of the rear panel of the meter cabinet.

Would have prompted questions about the empty holes marked "9V adapter", "lamps" and "batt check" .

The reason those holes are empty is that the original circuit board with all the works is gone. Missing.

Does have a small hunk of RatShack perfboard with a few trimpots mounted on it.

Oops.

Just shows that asking the right questions first can prevent frustration later on.

But it's not really a Tram ASM-1. Not any more. It's an almost-empty box with some home-brewed trimpots in place of the actual works.

Then again, if I had looked more closely I would have noticed the missing "AVR/PEP" switch on the front panel. It was there in the picture, but I let my enthusiasm carry me away and failed to notice that detail. Can't blame anyone else for that.

So yeah, I'll assume you were acting in good faith and did not know the meter unit had been totally trashed.

On the bright side, the pickup unit appears to be okay.

So, I suppose half a wattmeter is better than none.

But only a little. The wacky part is that I custom-built a pickup box for one of these meters earlier in the year. Had a customer up north who had the ASM-1 meter box, but no pickup for it. Managed to dig up enough info to build one for him.

But the pickup box is pretty simple on the inside. Wasn't that tricky to duplicate. Sure won't try to duplicate the "automatic" works that go into the meter cabinet, though.

Like I said, I'm assuming you didn't know it had been trashed when you offered it for sale.

But it was.

Thought about posting some pictures in a post here, something like "Know what questions to ask first" or something like that. But I have no desire to criticize the seller, and even if I say nothing about where I bought it, the "for sale" post is still on this forum. An aggravator could still find that post, then put two and two together. Don't need any hate and discontent on the forum about that.

If you want to delete the for-sale post before I say anything about this item on line, let me know. I won't post anything about it before I hear back from you on the subject.

Once it's deleted, the seller can remain anonymous if I decide to post anything about the item itself.

And you did a fine packing job. Can't gripe about that.

Thanks anyway and 73,
Chris

Here is a pic of what should be inside the ASM-1 meter cabinet.

A circuit board, battery holder.

Got these pics from a customer who has one of these.

The rear panel should have two switches and three jacks.

And here's what he sent me.

All I have is questions.

Like, incompetence, maybe?

Or fraud, maybe? Don't know.

Just questions, no answers. Haven't gotten any from him.

Yet.

I need the remote sensor as well if you know someone who is building them? I have the meter & the 9v wall wart but no sensor.Appears the parts get separated with these quiet often since I have seen several postings about the meter without the sensor.Shame they did not attach the parts like the Autek WM-1 so they stayed connected to each other.I sent you a PM yesterday also hoping you might be able too assist me with my search. Thanks much & God bless.

Whups.

Dropped the ball on the pm.

I made one for a guy a few years back. Would probably cost $170 to make in today's dollars.

It used a pc board for the pickup that's sold on Ebay. Rated for 3000 Watts, he says. But the DC voltage it puts out to the meter was about right. Biggest expense is the metal enclosure, drilling the holes and getting it mounted, wired up. One-of-a-kind build labor is never cheap.

I know I snapped some pics of the build process. I'll see if I can dig those up.

Here is a link to Victor's "100-Watt" version of this board. Not sure why the 3000-Watt version isn't listed.
