Ducie Island dxpedition

Listened on and off throughout the day yesterday 20 meters. Around 7pm CST he was up to 5/9 with limited QSB. I tried for about 40 minutes and finally got out ahead of the big boys on the split.. up 15.. and got him. Put a smile on my face ... new one for me.

It was not a new one for me but I got them this week on 12,15,17,& 20 meters.I have not heard them on 10 meters or I would have them there. All of the worked bands have been very easy so 10 meters should be no different.

You must live on the west coast.. OR have some serious aluminum in the air for 10 meters and even that would be iffy... With the cycle in the toilet 10 wont be as easy as you may think...at least not for a dude like me with a peanut station in Illinois... I have seen Ducie spotted on the cluster on 10 but only from guys in Cali and some JAs.. so... good luck with that and I hope you get him. I've listened a couple times but crickets. 4-5 yrs back it would have been much easier. I have pretty much given up on working them on 10.. 40 is what I'm trying to pull off. With 100 w, a G5RV and ssb it's been tough. Last couple evening 10-11 o'clock 40 has been only FT8/cw...and time is running out. This just throws fuel on my fire to get something better up for the low bands this spring....oh and polish up my cw!!!

I live in Northeast Florida and I have them on 10 meters from years ago but I have not been on the air when they have been on 10 meters with this group. I have a modest 5 band yagi but working the world has been pretty easy even with the current band conditions. The yagi is only at 50 ft and I run an ICOM 7600 with an ICOM PW-1 amplifier and find DX really easy since I can work any stations that I hear and usually get them within two to three calls. I think location is a big deal and Florida is a great location for most bands. I have never heard or worked Alaska on 6 meters but the Magic Band is a whole different animal. I have three ZL’s and a JA on 6 meters and dozens of other countries on 6 meters but Alaska has been a thorn so WAS for that band has eluded me since 1994.I will NOT be working them on 10 meters or any other band since they are leaving early due to bad weather. It was posted on their web site about an hour ago so the trip was cut about 6 days.Just happy I already have that one.
