Icom just released a preview video showcasing the new Icom IC-9700 rig. This thing looks pretty sweet, especially for satellite ops. Icom only has a pre-release brochure out and not all of the features are covered, but I attached it anyway.

Enjoy the video:

When I first seen this radio I thought it would be the updated replacement for the IC-9100 with a color LCD screen.

That would be nice to see the 9100 updated just like the 7610 with similar features. Maybe that'll be next.

This would make a fine radio for those wanting just VHF, UHF, and D-star.

??? I do NOT see the sudden attraction to Touch Screen Radios??? ICOM just keeps making sure that I will never own another NEW Transceiver with their name on it. I guess all of my future radios will be USED gear. If I were in need of another HF/6 meter base I would buy a used ICOM 7600 but I hope my current 7600 lasts me many more years so it is not an issue for a long long time. I will also keep my ICOM 275A where it is and the ICOM 746. All of them have buttons & knobs & no touch screens & that is AWESOME! . {:>)

I agree with sp5it, they did a decent job on my 7300, it's particularly useful there given the small size of the radio. It's a pretty easy system to master. My only gripe with icom right now is the 7610 build quality is kinda meh, the knobs rotate too freely, I realize that is sort of petty. Plus theres a lot of screen burn and other QC issues going on. The dude at HRO told me when I was buying my 7300 that I made the right choice, because he had to send back a bunch of 7610s recently. It's kind of a shame, because given the 7610s capability its actually an incredible rig for the money... true dual RX, etc. Sounds decent RX/TX too just like the 7300, a little bit better, even on RX...

I hope it will be less garbage transmitter than ic-910.
Mike

I had a 910H a few years ago, it was an OK radio, never had any TX problems, but curious why they didn't just make it 100W out on 2M and 440. I think they also should throw a duplexer into the radio with a switch or something, so that you have the choice of separate paths or one path going out.

You didn't, your radio neighbours did. 910 have trashy transmitter, pain in the ass for UHF/VHF neighbour.
Mike

Honestly I think only made one or two contacts on VHF SSB on the thing. Most of the time in the northeast 2M/70cm SSB is a ghost town.

I would rather keep my Kenwood 700sp than buy this thing, it's to computery!!(wait is that a word?). I agree with drgrant, 2m ssb is a ghost town.

If it's anything like the 7300 it will be a huge success for Icom. I'm betting they will sell a boat load.

If they would release the 9100 with the 7600 screen & not the touch screen BS I would buy one but I have less than Zero interest in any radio with a touch screen. When those screens start failing I want to hear the excuses from all of the companies who pushed them on the consumers who will be stuck with the BIG repair bills.

Good points,

At Least the newer 7610 has a video out so you can use an external monitor when the screen burns out.

I didn't notice a video out on this radio. My Icom 7000 has one and I use it in my mobile and works geat with a cheap 7 inch $40 LCD monitor. You almost need one because of the 2.5 inch screen on the 7000.
