Tax time dreams..

Both have almost all the same things..

The 2970 is more VFO oriented..

Both run 4* 2879 for amp section

Both are $670 or so prior to tune and align and setup.. so like $715 and then SH.. then a bigger 50 amp power supply also for another $100 or so..

The other option in my head is 2950 with TS500.. which would be about $800 total new.. $350 and $450

I'd have to sell my current TS350 for funds to justify the TS500 in my head and budget??

Which way would be best ??

Don't suggest a ham rig, I have one. I just want a very stout radio setup and apparently RCi trump's the Galaxy line for less drift..

If I ever pay that kind of money for a CB I hope my wife has me committed because it's obvious I have lost my mind. LOL There are Plenty of Sweet HF rigs out there for that price or less & they do all of the HF Bands CB with a MARS Mod & all mode as well. Most I have ever given for any CB since 1965 has been $200 for my TRAM D201A & $200 for my Browning Golden Eagle MK IVA & both were well worth it. Export CB's are far overrated & over priced & none of them are impressive. Putting out a lot of watts & having lots of unwanted frequencies is unimportant to an Old School CB Guy like me. I would rather use my Legal Old School radios any day on the CB Band. I just laugh when I see those Stupid prices when I know they cost $100 or so to build them if that in those Sweat Shop Factories. No wonder these companies are making so much profit & living the good life. LOL

I just want to see options out there that are mainly CB type radios. 10/11/12 m..

The other option is the TS1600 amp for $729.. and just keep running my Cobra 148..

Both are junk. Neither radio has enough surface area for the PA transistors to properly dissipate the heat. Even running it stock power, the radio will still get fairly hot. And where do you think that heat goes, since the heatsink is on the bottom of the radio? Right into the main PCB. Poor design. Radios that have built in amps are just an awful design. Get an HF rig if you're planning to use it on 10M, or get a CB and a decent amplifier. Don't waste your money on anything else. (y)

~Cheers~

Everyone says that, without acknowledging that one s unit in RF terms is huge..... that said, I think an external amp is more convenient....namely given that if an amp smokes, at least you'll still have a radio.... not to mention you wouldn't be welded into a 2950... which is still mostly an AM/FM rig given that 100hz vfo resolution on SSB is a frustrating joke on a good day.....
