New RCI-2950CD display problem..

Bought a 2950CD one month ago today and had used it just fine several times. (Posted about it on here too).

Today I turned it on at 1030 or so.. and at 1230 I used it for abit.

Baby went for a nap so I went in another room to hide.

Well here at 3:15pm I go in to shout for some 38 DX and noticed that the display was totally black. The dim function still works the buttons brightness but the display is still black.

The top of display is warm and I smell a slight burning smell.

I had it on setting 2 of 4 if that matters.

Still TX and RX just fine..

Checked my PS for 13.8vdc that was fine.

Just emailed the online store I got it from..

Anyone?? This is the new CD model.

Radio is off currently.

Radio Shop in Ontario California is the warranty site. Just quoted me 4-6 weeks..

Sent March 7. Received 9th.

Juat got a UPS email saying shipped yesterday (March 25th) and ETA tommorow.

So 3-4 weeks I guess.

Be interesting to see if there is a note with it.. they didn't contact me at all.

Just got back today. Repair form says resistor R13 and capacitor C14..

Let's hope it just works forever now..

Testing for 4 hours on and no issues thus far.. hopefully this positive working continues.. I'd hate to send it back out again..

And Mudfoot, I dunno.. most are $320-340 for the CD model online. Some have it for like $290 and then shipping kicks in.

I advised both Bells, DTB, and the vendor I also bought from about the 2 parts changed in case they get any thru there shops as a courtesy.

Be nice to know if this is a common problem on this model.

Wrong schematic bro, C14 and R13 on that schematic affects the receive. CPU PCB doesn't reflect the same part numbers.

Oh. Didn't know. Do you have the proper one you can post up? Trying to help others that may have same issue later..

I don't know if the CD version schematics are similar to the DX and oldschool orange display version. I do know that the issue was most likely on the CPU PCB, the tech probably wrote up the wrong PN's

The CPU/display board has a separate schematic from the main schemo shown above. Far as I know, the newest version of this radio has never had a diagram for that board published. Pretty sure it's different from all the previous-version CPU schematics on CB Tricks.

Wonder why the 2950's are so expensive anymore?

I don't know of any modern CB that I would pay more than $150 for.I paid $75 for my UNIDEN 980SSB Used & had I not found it used I would have given $150 for a new one but not any more than that.
