The total of 21’8” is a foot and a half shy of the actual total.

I believe that’s about what it would take to raise the tuning from 27.205 to mid 28mhz .

Someone would have to actually measure all 3 sections of an old one to see where the change has taken place.

I stand corrected on the measurements.
Being that I'm not a radio technical person, I am assuming the missing 10" is the answer for the high SWR on 11 meters.

Yes, I agree.

Not that it should be necessary, but it’s still an easy fix if someone somehow got stuck with one or had no choice...and that is replace the top section with a longer section or put a 10” riser between the middle and top.

A 102” steel whip would be more than long enough, and a 96” fiberglass whip may even get it close enough to it tune.

(y) See Bobby , I pay attention , but also have a lot of friends in PD, FD & Medical , so i get it . But they usual get scheduled every other year per holiday .
 
Doesn't matter a toss if they shortened the antenna in regards to it working on 11m. Even if they shortened it to a couple of feet long as long as the matching section allowed it to present a 50 ohm impedance at the antenna feedpoint on 27MHz it can be used on 11m.

The only thing that'd change would be its efficiency but given the lengths of shortening mentioned here I doubt you'd notice just off the S meter alone.

But if they change the length without changing the matching section, you may well be stuck. That appears to be what has happened. And don’t they require some sort of destructive disassembly to get to the match?

Now that Robert Buttle received a new MAX 2000 with no internal threads on the bottom section to attach the center section to, that is a very good indication that the manufacturers QA/QC process is broken.
