homebrew astroplane build

DB, if you have any interest in this thread and have some time...I posted GHZ24's 4NEC2 model in the PDF file below. I don't recall if I ever saw this model's results, and I have not done a search either to see if it was ever posted.

Hopefully you can do this for those interested.

As best as I can tell, both models are the same...just different views.

Will have to wait till, at minimum, this weekend.

Hmm, it won't let me copy and past the text, which means I will have to do it all manually... Go figure...

thanks for the input guys!

the astroplane you see advertised currently is not the same design as the old one.

rest assured that i am searching every avenue in my attempt to obtain one of these antennas.
might just have a line on one!

seems this antenna is made of the particularly popular metal called unobtainium.LOL

Youll have to fight me on EBay, just a heads up :D

Me too! :cautious:
And I’m retired with time on my hands. :p
Not retired yet but old enough I only sleep a few hours a night and I get bored so I troll ebunk lol. I have a starduster and the astroplane is next.
Theres a nib starduster on ebunk now btw...

Awe shucks.....guess include me in the quest for unobtainium. Laid off, but have fun money on hand. Building a antenna farm now, what's one more.:D
Hmmm, ive farmed a lot of things but never antennas ;)
Im on 20 acres here in florida. I can repace the cypress in the swamp with towers. Is this a challenge???

DB, I don't recall ever having a conversation with GHZ24, so I doubt he sent me the file.

Check the forum to see if the 4NEC2 file is posted here...I may have copied the file into word as text file. I think I was probably intending to try and input the numbers by hand.

Astroplane
I posted an astroplane model on nseepcs ap thread (as did he).
I think this is the most adjustable model I designed.
I never found anything remarkable about this antenna other than it's not that omni-directional.
maybe someone can correct the dimensions and demonstrate the qualities that I missed.
I'm not done playing with this model yet.

DB, above is the heading GHZ24's posted above the 4NEC2 details I posted below...this is why it was in my AstroPlane folder. He posted enormous antenna models that he had worked on in that thread. Maybe this thread can give you a heads up in duplicating some of the models you lost when your computer failed.

I'm going to try and check out the "nseepcs ap" thread too.

LOL on the antenna challenge.

i found one years ago guys, and no it's not for sale.
as a matter of fact it's going to be replacing my IMAX in the near future.
no, it's not for sale either. still works good for getting cats out of trees.

Did the same thing. Found one in an unopened box for a reasonable price. And yup, replaced the Imax with the AP and like it better. Has a low SWR and is quieter than the Imax and works just as well if not better. Worked plenty of DX stations with it.

I remember playing with this model. If you look at the last post in the thread you linked, I modified his sigma4 model to be easier to use. I prefer my own ways of making such models, they are easier for me to grasp.

I am curious about him saying that it is not omni directional? It is when I use it. He did say he wasn't done playing with it yet...

Would one made from fiberglass and 14 AWG insulated stranded copper wire model/perform much differently than an aluminum one?
