I snagged this pic of the board.

Guessing the following:
AMOD is AM modulation
APWR (H) is AM power high
FMPWR (H) is FM power high
SSBPWR (H) is SSB power high
SSBANL is SSB modulation

I remember Bells in one tune up report did say radio only has a high limit pot.. he set it to 8w, so low is about 1-2w and showed swinging to about 15-17 which was good for amp usage.

Hey there I'm curious about turning down the output the variable power on the front is apparently only for am fm, I want to turn it down for ssb so I can use a 203 but I don't want to cause any other issues while turning it down, anyone got a good guide to follow.

Thanks!

Well the 203 is rated at 2-20w for SSB, I personally wouldn't hit it that hard. May like 15w peak PEP on SSB. No more than 10w on AM pep.

The 5555 should be able to turn down the SSB pot to max out at say 15w for PEP..

So adjust SSBPWR like I noted up top to swing your wattmeter with modulation to say 10-12w with a whistle and power knob on front all the way down and in LSB or USB mode and then test with the 203 in SSB mode.

Others will chime in.

Remember do at your own risk..

Found this mod manual. I don't know how to copy it from this location.

So, I just ordered one of these along with a couple of Astatic mics: the RD104E amplified and the 636L noise canceling. I know I'll have to buy or build a mic adapter, but that's no biggie.
I got it through walmart.com, sold and shipped by DNJ Radio for $195 and free shipping. The mics were on sale too, and also had free shipping.
I bought the 3-year protection plan for $22.

I've been looking at these for awhile, along with the AT-5555N, AT-6666 and the newest President Lincoln II+. Hopefully it will do what I want it to do. I might also spring for a KL203 to use with it. I'm planning to put it in my truck.

I use the 636 with mine. The 4 pin Cobra / Galaxy works except the wire on the #4 pin on the MIC needs to be disconnected in the plug. The #4 on the 5555 has power on it for the channel buttons and will short out with the pin #4 because it is grounded when the key is released to give a Cobra radio the receive audio.

How is yours working out for you, a year later? Do you still like it?

I still have it in my truck, doing great. The 5555 has got to be the best bang for the buck. It has more features that are laid out better than radios that cost twice as much. That and it still looks like a CB is what sealed the deal for me. I also have a Stryker SR-955HP in the shack and I think it is a variation on the 5555, but the features aren't as convenient and well executed as the 5555 and it costs twice as much. I guess the 955 makes a little more power, but not enough of a difference for me to say that makes it better. The 955 is a great radio too, but if I was going to buy another export radio, it would be a 5555 all day long. It is a great radio, you are going to have fun with yours.

Thanks, Chris. I'm looking forward to its arrival. I need to order a programming cable for it, because the ability to do that was one of its selling points for me.
