I came across this video where the v12 tube is a 12AT7 and was replaced with a 12AX7. He was able to get more peak power out of the radio, but I was thinking that this would allow me to turn the MIC gain down to increase the headroom? What do you guys think?

I personally think it makes them sound fuzzy around the edges when you do that.
My sonar sounds great with an amplified d104 straight into the radio, it sounds even better with a stock one through a Demco.
( that seems to be the general consensus on how to run a sonar)
