Been hearing a lot of CB users on 7300's

This radio is really catching on with the CB crowd. Been hearing a lot of people using them on SSB. Another local picked up one here and was talking to him this morning. I've been really impressed with the audio I'm hearing on them on SSB.

Initally I was suprised people were dropping $1K to use it on CB but with 2995DXs hitting $800-900 I guess it's not that far off on price.

I think in my brain I'm still lagging 20 years behind in prices, everything seems like it's twice as expensive as it should be.

The “norm” we might achieve in awareness is around our early thirties, I think. For awhile we track changes and then less so. Every so often, a jolt.

CB is seen differently by non-hobbyists, IMO. The rubber hits the road with antennas.

If there is suddenly a run on buying towers then the hobbyist (amateur) crowd sees the connections.

In the meantime, “entry level“ HF must be enticing as a phrase. How does SDR fit in?

Under age 40 seems to want computer-interface for everything, right down to their toothbrushes. Maybe that’s part of it? (SDR has no appeal for me so I know nothing of it).

Reviews on DXE cover quite a bit of ground re “exciting” (video game reference in one case).

7300, yes very nice radio's for sure, but for using on 11 meters - just nostalgia. Give me the money for what it cost and I'll put up a bigger beam.

If you're a dedicated SSB operator then it's always more enjoyable to use a 100W ham rig even if it's an older used one. Many good rigs can be had for $400-500 bucks. I got stupid lucky and snagged a an Icom 746 for $450 on ebay last fall. Right place at the right time. Besides having the clean 100 watts, much better receiver with numerous extra features like bandpass tuning and digital noise reduction, better sensitivity and selectivity. Blows away any ssb CB I've ever had. Glad to hear 7300's on 11 meters!

I'm hearing a few 101’s going strong after all these years. It’s still an economically sound radio for those DIY repair motivated individuals on a budget.

Boy!!!.....ain't that the truth! But, you know....I gotta say, if their actually buying the 7300's, then at least their head is in the right place! I NEVER have been able to understand 8 or 9 hundred dollars for a freakin glorified CB radio, when you could spend LESS money and get a fairly decent HF rig that has transmit and receive quality that the "10/11" meter radios could never even HOPE to achieve! When all those RCI'S and other brands went through the roof with their prices I thought....WTF!!!??? So....just MAYBE there's a little common sense beginning to develop here.........maybe......;-)
