Which one?

So on the McKinley should the 'fine' freq adust have a strong center detent or is it a bit loose? The 'course' adjustment has a strong center and I suspect the 'fine' is OK as is but I wanted to check while this is in the return window. It works fine (no pun!) but I am just curious.

Only the course clarifier has the detent. (y)

Is it on frequency out of the box? If it's off a touch I posted a quick how to get it on freq using a known radio that is on to do it. So far the ones I have had have all been on.
Mine is a bit off on SSB. My voice is a little high. Hasn’t had much time to really get it centered. Was going to do it with a friend.

I spent the better part of today installing the McKinley in our 2000 Tacoma. I am going to end up 3D printing a lot of parts to make this fit but it seems to be a hell of a radio. The receiver seems to be excellent. For WX it is the only receiver I have that can actually pickup the "other" NOAA station far away. And today when just driving around I swapped my 5' Skipshooter for a 3' FireStik 'cus I was running out of squelch. And on clear airspace the pre-amp on the RM 203p is very noticeable. I was running a President Bill II FM (sweet little radio) but I wanted SSB so in with the huge ;)
The radio shouldn’t fit just fine if your running a single DIN stereo…perfect.

I lowered the squelch on WX. Now all 7 WX channels are open. Makes sense of your looking for a WX channel to listen to.

How is it working with that 3’ Firestik?

My 3' Skipshooter replaced my 3' Firestik. I run the 3' around town and the '5 Skipshooter when I am trying to get out. But frankly today the 3' was enough.

As for the fit, it's rough, but I have fabbed up a mount that goes under the center console that I will be duplicating on a 3D printer. I would go with a different single DIN head unit so I could put this in the dash but I have a $1K Kenwood Excelon HU that I pulled out of one of our fancier cars and it works so well that I need to work around it 'cus it is staying put. Pics later.

It is very 'on point' from what I can tell. But I have noticed that on side bands some people that are broadcasting with tons of power sound better with a little nudge. Pretty sure that is all on the TX side. But I don't have a ton of time with it since it is in our pickup truck and I don't drive much. But when I do I am heading to higher ground and pulling out the big antenna!

I live in Sherwood Oregon. Willamette valley. You would think that the WX chans would be fired up around here. Nah. One is the norm on every radio I have ever used. The McKinley picks up two and that second one has either been dead until recently or the McKinley has a really sensitive tuner. My President Bill II FM can't using the same antenna. Not even with a pre-amp.

I really like that set up!!! We have the same dash…LOL Good thing with where you put the McKinley is that you don’t have to pull the bezel off to work on it if needed. I was worried about 5th gear and 4L but it clears.

If your on frequency even better!! One less thing to worry about.

That’s wild!! I would think in Oregon you would have more than 2 that come in. I used to get 2 WX channels but now with WX squelch off I get 3 and sometimes a faint 4th.

Not sure if your radio is the same but my AMC and ALC were way low from the factory. Now it swings like the radio should. Gets out great!
