Predator 10K

Will be tried top dead center of an extended cab pickup truck cab. Both 102 ss whip and Predator. One right after another. I will drive about 9 or 10 miles away and will change antennas while my buddy Darryl gets readings from both. Should show which one does best on my particular vehicle, anyway.
Make sure Darryl turns his RF gain down to where you are putting 1 S unit on his radio. And then switch antennas. You don't want the AGC to effect the test.

All I know (first hand experience) is that a deceased "Bowl" friend of mine used a 102 SS whip on a chain bumper mount on the back of his 70's Caddy and it held his AC Blue Gill just fine. He even cooked me a hotdog on it; it took about 3 seconds.

Pretty sure it was doing more than 8K. The DK put my 10K slug in the corner. The chrome had peeled off his bumper in a 6" radius of the chain. Fun times...
Wow!
You guys ruined a perfectly good bumper to cook a hot dog? Lol.....lol...lol!

I will not be running any amp. Never have. Just my President Lincoln ll V3 and the Whip and Predator for the testing. The Predator made it to our post office here and is showing now as "out for delivery", so, should get it by 10 or 10:30 AM this morning.

Just got my Predator 10K, 27" shaft single coil. I am amazed how precision and finely crafted this antenna is. Built very well. Now, getting ready to go mount it, tune it, and try it out!
Once you have it tuned, put a little Noalox on the set screw and the whip were it enters the top of the antenna.
I have seen then get stuck after a time in bad weather.

You have a chance to compare them yet? I definitely can’t use a 102” on my car but I can use the predator. It’s one of the antennas on my list of possibilities to run next. But I may just stick with my 6 foot skip shooter. It performs really good. Have it on a workman triple magnet mount. It definitely out performs my old Wilson 1000 magnet mount. I’m sure have three magnets vs one with the Wilson for grounding helps a lot.

Not yet. I think I'm gonna have to trim it a bit. Showing SWR 2.49 on channel 1 and 2.84 SWR on 40. Using 2 MFJ SWR meters. 1 analog and 1 digital. Both very close to each other. I believe I've read other post's here where others had to trim their stinger on the Predator 10K.

I recommend trimming 1/4" increments. What is the power output of the radio?

Well, got my Predator 10K down to a 1.2 on channel 1 and 1.5 on 40. Going to trim a bit more today and I'm fairly certain I'll get it down, at least very close, to a perfect match. That's what I'm shooting for anyway. Got it mounted on the drivers side top bed rail about 8 inches behind the cab. Same mount I mount my 102" ss whip on. With the 27" shaft, the coil clears the cab about 5 or 6 inches. Will eventually be running it with my Galaxy DX 94HP.
Using TM LMR-400 UF, (Overkill I know), about 15 and a half ft of it. I do believe it's going to tune out great. I drove through town yesterday afternoon with the antenna mounted and did get some looks hahaha.

Right at 1.4 on 20. I believe another quarter inch or so and I'll get there. And that's with the stinger flat on the bottom. Imo, that will be a good thing. In case the set screw EVER does loosen it can't slide on down. But, I always keep a good eye on these set screws. When I get it set, I may add a small drop of blue lock tight on it.
