11 meter is very quiet?

@unit_399 it was great talking to you yesterday. When I first heard you call, you were coming into the side of my beam and I am surprised that I heard you. I have my beam pointed west to try and get across the Pacific, but have only made it to the Islands off the coast of Canada so far. The change you made to your equalizer helped you cut through my QRM. It's handy to be able to do that if needed. You have a fine sounding station, that 139 is doing a great job.

73 and 51

Thanks for the flowers, Chris. Your station was sounding strong too. I made the EQ mod to my 139, but our qso was the first time I tried it. Glad it worked. I kinda had my doubts. Looking to connect with you again soon. 73 right back.

399 i have talked to you twice in the last week and until right now i did not realize that you were the same 399! I have read and seen your postings on here for years but did not connect the dots until now. Thank you for the contact and you sounded great up here in the PNW Seattle Metro area. 73's 468

468 -

I checked my log book, and sure enough, we made contact twice last week. One night (10/13) around 8pm my time (EST) . Everything was dead except for the Pacific Northwest. I remember we had a nice QSO. Hope to talk to you again soon. Didn't get your personal, but I will next time. 73 my friend.

How about an update on your antenna/coax problem. Did you get your new coax yet ?? How about your new dummy load. I'm really interested in finding out what was causing the rising SWR in your station.

Nothing yet dummy load is here but antenna is in the sky still. Waiting on new coax. Oddly it now has stopped its weird behavior however beam still has 2.5 SWR w box on. The weird slow rising then off the charts suddenly has stopped. No idea why. Only thing changed is I am on the TRC 457 vs the President Lincoln II+...... Been enjoying the old radio havent wanted to hook it back up yet. This 457 though holy cow I turned up the mod internally (no clipping anything it appears too nice to hack up) and damn its sensitive now barely crack any power mic open at all and it's banging ny mod meter off the wall. Are these chassis mod monsters? Had one ham guy accuse me of being on a Kenwood? He didnt believe it was a old 1970s radio with a turner+3.

These 858 SSB radios are super loud even with a stock mike. The Realistic 457/458s are detuned slightly. Locate D23 (next to VR7). In the Realistic rigs a 220 ohm resistor is in the D23 location. Replace this resistor with a 1N914 or 1N4148 diode. (observe polarity). This change will make the Realistic 858 mod limiter the same as all of the other brands. Really opens up the audio. I use a stock Cobra hand mike on my 139XLR and always get good audio reports.

BTW: Also replace C87 with a 10uf 16 volt electrolytic cap.

Ever since I got back on the air in July, I have logged most of my contacts. So far my log book has 276 entries, and I have a backlog of contacts to enter. I feel stupid when I contact someone and they say, "Remember, we talked last month." and I don't remember. My son, (the computer genius), said that I should enter all my logbook data into a spreadsheet, and use it to analyze the data to see if I had talked a a station previously. Sounded pretty cool, so I bought a tablet and entered my log book data into it. I didn't know squat about using spreadsheets so my son signed me up with CHATGP, an online Artificial Intelligence program. The program and I "talk" to each other verbally, and it has guided me thru getting my spreadsheet working. Now, when I make a contact, I can type in his number and state, and, (If we've contacted before) the sheet will kick back the number and dates of previous contacts immediately, along with his location and personal if he gave it to me. TOTALLY COOL !!! CHATGP is amazing.

@unit_399 JJ - how's the data entry going for you? It took me all of 20 minutes to get my spread sheet set up, but wow, I'm terrible about taking time to input the data. I'm planning on going back to this past January, but it may take me until this coming January! :ROFLMAO:
