Realistic TRC-212 help

I have a trc 212 that stop working about year ago. It has no receive or transmit. the speaker seems to be working and the squelch works. the only way to get it to receive anything is to touch the antenna to the other radio, but its very very faint and staticky. I know a little about electronics but not nearly enough to be able to fix this on my own. any help would be greatly appreciated

Couldn't find any diagrams or manual on line. Is this a walkie-talkie?

A schematic and parts-placement diagram are pretty much the starting point to troubleshoot a failure.

its a 4 watt 40 channel handheld cb radio. seems similar to the trc 216 but I have no clue if the circuits are the same.

If only someone had scanned the factory manual for that one. RatShack's service data was pretty good. While it lasted.

Its a shame this radio stopped working. the 212's are rugged as hell and it was in good condition

Luckly I have a working 212 so I might be able to probe around the bad unit and see what matches up to the working one

You might start by trying control cleaner on switches and controls. Battery leakage is the serial killer for handheld radios.

I could try that, however the unit stopped working while I was using it and the batteries were good
