Albrecht AE 8000 strange problem on AM

Hello, I have a question.

I have a very strange problem, when I have the mic gain on the radio fully open and send on AM, I have 3 watts and it squeaks in the radio, I think near the 12vdc relay, and that only happens on AM, not on FM.

But if I turn the mic gain on the radio all the way down, I have 4 watts and the squeak goes away.

I took a look at the VR204 yesterday, it's actually fine, but I replaced it straight away, but unfortunately the problem is still there.

And now I've noticed something else.

If I only press the send button three quarters of the way down on my 2 amplifier microphones K-PO, everything works, if I press it all the way down, it squeaks on AM.

I would be very happy if someone could please explain to me what's going on.

Best regards

100% agree. RF is getting into your mic cable. Are you running an indoor antenna of some kind? Have you checked your SWR? Something isn't right somewhere.......

Thank you both very much, I've never had anything like this before and had no idea what could be going on.

Unfortunately I don't have a dummy load and I use a high antenna and the SWR is perfect.

To be honest I improved the performance a bit but I had the same problem before, but then the squeaking went away and I had the same amount of watts on FM and AM and now it's back but only on AM, which is really strange.

Perfect SWR means only that antenna match your transmitter. That's all.
Get dummy load. It is basic gear for radio testing.
Mike

OK, then I'll get a dummy load, I only test radios every 2-3 years, that's why I don't have one. :)

And I was just happy, the squeaking on AM had gone and I had full power.

Until I noticed that the cover of my amplifier microphones wasn't closed properly, when I closed the cover properly the squeaking was back. :D

and when I touch the metal in the microphone, the squeaking in AM is gone.

But OK, I'll get a dummy load first. :)

Simple solution.
Get 2x 1nF (102) ceramic capacitor.

Put one across electret capsule and the other between modulation output and ground.
Mike

Hello, thank you very much for your help, I was very pleased. :)

Today I borrowed a dummy load from a colleague.

And then I soldered a 1nF capacitor to the electret capsule.

And then I tested, tested a lot, and now I'm totally confused and don't understand anything anymore. :D

I really hope I'm not annoying you and that you can help me.

That would be really great. :)

Hello again, and sorry again that everything is so confusing.

But is there another way to get rid of this squeaking since the two 1nF capacitors unfortunately didn't work.

Kind regards.

Does it squeak on dummy load or not?

Hello, thank you again for your efforts, I am really pleased. :)

I tested it again with my high antenna and with dummy load. :)

And the squeaking is always there even with a dummy load.

And now I noticed something, I always have an additional measuring device on my radio.

And if I connect my high antenna or dummy load directly to the radio, the squeaking is gone.

If I attach my additional measuring device, the squeaking is back.

Best regards. :)

Check cable connecting that box with radio
I tested it straight away and the squeaking went away with the new cable. :)

Thank you very much, I was so confused by now that I wouldn't have even come up with this simple solution. :D

I have one more question, why is it only on AM and not on FM.
And once again, thank you very much. :)
