I do have that modification but will have to look through my notes tomorrow so I don't give you the wrong pads to add the switch. If your photo showed the board a little closer to the front of the radio, I could have pointed to the pads but they're cut off on the photo. I'll get back to you tomorrow unless someone else has answered.
Just FYI, a west mountain clrdsp does wonders with the receive on that radio, it made a world of a difference with mine.

And that my friend is just one of several reasons why I will never own another Ranger product. I had both a 2950 and a 2970 back in the 1990's and both had hideous white noise which drove my tinnitus nuts.
Here we are 30 years later, and Ranger radios are still known for all the same problems they had back in the day, including harsh white noise. Talk about a company not giving a shit!
totally understand, I really like the layout and the looks for the 2995 DX and it's a talker for sure but the receiver just sucks. Such a shame they can't make it better.
Totally agree! It's too bad that there isn't more base station type radios out there. I also like the layout and look of those 2995DX's. If only I could put the guts of an Anytone 5555N2 into the body of a 2995DX LOL!

That is exactly where either a jumper or a switch can be put in place. You can actually use a 3 position switch and use a little capacitance to give you a little less or a little more. Off med and high if you wanted.

Do you have a signal generator?
if so, there is an adjustment you can make (well you can make the adjustment either way, but the sig gen lets you confirm that you haven't lost any significant sensitivity).
Ranger radios all have this issue to varying degrees and it has to do with how it was aligned.
in your radio, you want to adjust L5.
BUT!
DO NOT adjust it for max sensitivity like you would with all the other coils.
You can peak L5 first just so you start at max sensitivity, but you'll notice that you also have max noise and sometimes even a reading on the S meter with no antenna connected.
Here's the trick:
disconnect everything from the antenna jack on the radio, and put the radio on AM mode, noise blanker and anl off, RF gain at max, volume at a level that allows you to hear everything.
now, adjust L5 off it's peak just enough to notice a dip in the white noise.
it won't take much adjustment at all, and you'll notice a pretty big dip in receive noise.
it will make you think that you just tanked your receiver sensitivity, but you haven't.
do a before and after test with an S-3 signal from the generator and you'll notice that you're still almost at the same level after the tweak of L5.
if you did lose too much sensitivity for your liking, then just repeat the test until you find a happy medium between sensitivity and receive noise.

thanks buddy for the info, I don't have a sig gen. Are there any cheap ones on Amazon that would work for me?
Before wiring your switch just try whatever disc cap you may have laying around to see what works for you. A 103 maybe. It's whatever your ear desires. Just jumping it through a switch is pretty good i can tell you that.
Thanks Eldorado, got the switch installed and wires soldered in and wow what a big difference. Still not a 100% receive like my 2000 but it is much much better. I wonder if a potentiometer could be used maybe like a 5K

Tone control capacitor in a Saturn is a .02uf. The bigger the cap, the more it attenuates high audio frequencies. The control is a 200k. They used an "A" audio taper control, not a "B" linear taper control.
