Put a QT-80 in the mobile last week. Running it with a Stryker mag mount. Definitely one of my favorite mobile rigs. I really like it. I wanted to use 10 meters, so I bought a new LDG Z-11ProII auto tuner.

I didn't know the QT-80 shuts down with high SWR. Shuts down to fast and cannot tune. Be nice if that feature could be turned off.

OH well, Bummer.

You might want to turn the SWR protection back on. I just went on a road trip with a few other vehicles only to find out that my TX doesn't work. It makes the RX in one vehicle buzz and the other vehicle there is no audio on my signal. I have not been able to pull it out of the vehicle to check it out, but I fear the finals have bit the dust. I will update when I get it on the bench.

That's a drag.

Oh man that's not good and especially for such a young radio. So far it's the first one to peter out from owners here on the forum.

Hopefully that isn't what's to come for the rest of us.

I also had to disable SWR protect. I also believe, that since the finals are pushed harder, by the DC-DC boost converter, they will be more susceptible to mismatched antenna systems.

I am diligent about the antenna I am connected to being a good match.

Quick update, the radio works on the bench...

Just doesn't make much sense, maybe something with the antenna, maybe power connection problems. The radio display did not dim, showed SWR at 1.1, strange for sure. But the radio seems fine on the bench, sounds great on TX...

I will run it on the bench for a while, see what it does. Also might be time to drill a hole in the roof and get rid of the Wilson magnet.

That's good the radio appears fine. I'm thinking of punching a hole in my truck roof. I have everything I need, except the motivation. Need a portable air conditioner to put in my garage first. Headliner looks like it will be fun.

I was able to pull the dome light out to get to the hole but some of the headliner needs to come down to run the cable. Doesn't take that long considering the payoff.

I had an issue a few days ago, where the HI SWR would trip out, only on SSB. I guessed it was spurious emmision. I was made aware of a modification to the final PA transistors, to stop the self oscillation. I did the mod yesterday and will be testing it. Apparently, this occurs primarily in mobile installations, for whatever reason.

The mod is a Zobel network. I used 022 uF 50V X7R to source, to 51 ohm to gate (ground).

Here's some good news. It looks like they're working on a fix for that issue. This is from Scott's.

Hi all,

Attached is BETA firmware for the AT-6666PRO which is aimed at solving the SSB mode "HI SWR" issue. It is based on the latest V1.01 (it adds no new features, so if you are not having this issue with your radio, then there is no need to apply this update).

PDF update instructions are included in the file.

Please let me know if this update resolves the issue for you. Feedback is needed and appreciated.

Glad I discovered this post,as it sounds similar to a a problem I'm having with my 2ea. Q6Pros in a mobile application. Sounds like I should have waited until the bugs were worked out to purchase these radios. Dummy Me ! LOL
