Carl Built 400hd ssb

I did. It's seems silly not to unless you're strictly an AM guy. But even then, having the option is nice.
AM junkies don't want bias, it gobbles up current that they consider a waste, I too went through this phase many years ago.
" Class C works fine for SSB"
As I actually began to understand how radio really works, my views changed.
A lot.
Carl has been using the HG transistors for a while now looks like he has a good handle on the tune.
Even DM offers bias on their amps, didn't see much of that back in the day.
Steve (peek-a-boo) was building biased I remember guys complaining about the current draw on his amps compared to a class c comp amp, it was a uphill battle with wattmeter worshipers
( Refered to as meterbaters)

Yes Sir. I completely understand, and like yourself, my opinion has changed a lot since 1978. I don't mind the extra amp draw and I also run a bit on the low end of the scale. I'd rather take it easy on my equipment and have it last. But this wasn't always the case. I understand the mentality of wanting to bury the needle. Lol...
Thanks!!

UPDATE:
I'm very happy with this amp.
I've been running this with the Radioddity QT60 Pro because of the sound quality and the vfo mode, and have had nothing but great results. This amp will cruise along, giving an easy 600 watts pep on sideband all day long and this is running it conservatively.

I don't do anything on AM but if/when I do, I'll set the dk of the amp at 100 watts. (25 per pill).

On-air reports have all been great and the only adjustment I made to the radio was turning down the mic gain a little.

The stock fan runs all the time and was loud. I swapped it out with a quiet fan and added a small quiet fan to the rear vents to compensate. No issues with heat, even after a busy Saturday of dx.
