I have an original 5555N2 long case radio with the firmware upgrade and it goes down to 24.715 MHz. It did this even before I upgraded it!
In channel mode it will only go down to 25.615 but I can manually scan downward from there to 24.715
I talked to you a couple times briefly 45! It may have been on one of those occasions that Rick organized where we all tried to reach other WWDX members.
And Cable Guy I definately remember talking to you as well!
I've been on and off 11 meters from western Canada for over 40 years now. While there is way way way less happening during the bottom of the cycle I don't remember the band ever being completely dead for more than a week or two....maybe a month at most.
There's no F2 skip to speak of during...
No change here. Skip comes in for at least part of every day...in and out, in and out. Mostly California, other western states, Canadian prarie provinces, and Jack on the Big Island of Hawaii. A few weak Aussies in last night as well.
Thanks for the invite TheRATT! Port Orchard is just about 204 miles from me, so it wouldn't be possible on groundwave and it's a little bit too close for E-skip. I have talked to people around Puget Sound on backscatter and aurora skip a few times over the years so it can definately be...
I had no idea you were a fellow BC resident Murdog! One of my daughters is on the west side of Penticton and on evacuation alert. Fire seems to be moving in that direction.......Shingle Creek and Brent Lake got the evac order within the last hour. Scary times! Glad to hear your home...
Thanks FlyBoy50! Thankfully, we are on the coast and well away from the fire zone which is in the interior of the province.......about 150 miles to my east and on the other side of the Coast Mountains. Lucky for us, the prevailing winds here are off the ocean and that blows the smoke away from...
Way out here on the far west coast of Canada it's been an almost non-stop E-skip pipeline to California and nearby states for several weeks now. Hawaii is in everyday for hours as well. Even in the middle of the night there is skip drifting in from California! It drifts in for an hour or...
None of those are the way to go. As the other posters have noted they are all unfiltered class C amps and will sound awful, especially on SSB, as well as being splatterboxes.
You want class A/B bias so it sounds nice and clean, and you want a filter so you're not radiating crap all up and...
It's the switch itself. I have heard of this problem happening. As Eldorado says, flooding it with a plastic-safe contact cleaner may help.
The solution is to do what I do, and just leave the radio on 24/7...........electronics last much much longer if they stay powered on continuously...
Tripp Lite. Ooof. What a pile of manure those things are. I stick with APC gear for my UPS's......never let me down yet.
And my Megawatt 36 amp power supply has been running for several years now 24/7 powering my radios and amps. Zero complaints; like the energizer bunny it just keeps...
Great conditions out here on the far west coast for the last several weeks! Crazy mix of super short e-skip to nearby states and provinces, and long F2 skip to the east coast, southeast states, Caribbean, Australia, etc. etc.
The regular 40 channel band was full of Japanese speaking stations...
From inside a vehicle, no more than a mile or two on the highway, and less than a mile in urban areas. Transmit range would be even less than that. Hardly worth the bother! You would do much better with a Cobra 29 and a mag mount antenna.
