nobody said anything about using the mod v on SSB! just because the radio has SSB don't mean that's what it'll be used on!

I have a uniden 980 it only swings 6 watts, running into a 4 pill amplifier. 6 watts does not drive the amplifier. Mod v behind the 980 with a 1watt carrier only produces 14 watts, still not enough for the four pill.

yes the swing diode really wakes up a Ranger board compared to stock. Older duel final radios that have 1969 trans's can do 40w-44w easy. Now, i do use a Dosey thats calibrated....These duel mosfet radios like the Connex 3300HP, Connex 33 base can really perform awesome compared to a 1969...
