Just found a better solution. I found a name brand HP power brick that put out the same voltage, -.5v, with a different laptop connector on it. I cut the end off the noisy one, and spliced it onto the HP brick, and its silent running. Laptop is charging/running normally. Old one was...
Well, I just did an experiment, and wrapped the whole brick tightly with 2 layers of foil....and the cords..........I then tightly rubber banded a wire around the foil with several wraps around it, and ran the wire into to my ground lugs. It helped....a LOT. It cut the problem back from like 7...
I am going to try wrapping the whole thing in foil, including the cord, and grounding the foil as soon as I get some more foil....lol. Probably won't do squat.
I've tried plugging it into different outlets in the radio room, and moving it a little father from the radio, but space is at a premium in here, and it made no difference.
So I have a laptop set up in the radio room, I plan to use with an interface box for CW get, CW Type, and SSTV. The power brick for it throws off all kinds of noise. I jump from having 0 S-units of static up to like 7 units as soon as I plug the charger brick for the laptop in. Its bad...
LOL....its actually not me. I don't even own a cat. I just thought it was a funny pic I found on the net somewhere. When I tell people I am into amateur radio, they usually look at me like I am some kind of tin-foil hat wearing anarchist nut job, so I felt the pic fit.
Yeah this project is planned for one of my next big things. I've re-wired most of the house at this point. The radio room is the last room standing with old 2 wire outlets. I have had some issues in other rooms, and just decided to re-wire them as I had a several hundred foot coil of...
Well, this has turned into quite the educational debate. I think I've learned something from this, even if it did take off on a tangent. I'm happy for the tangent it took off on.
So let me ask you all this: We know I have lower grade thin coax cable with minimum shielding, that sat under a...
Yeah, the steel spool was rotted in half....lol. When we stripped back the ends though, the conductor wasn't all corroded. I dunno how much water actually got inside it. It works though. *shrug*
