The one I got had the same mods done to it. I guess it's SOP. No squeal BTW! When I spoke to Palomar last year they said they were coming out with a new and improved SL41 from a different manufacturer soon. This is probably one of the improvements they incorporated into the new mics.
At least...
OK boys and gurls! I got the mic (4 pin) today via USPS Priority mail and it is OLD NEW stock, or NEW OLD stock - whichever you prefer. I called BOB's CB SHOP today and asked about the new packaging (heat-sealed plastic bag) that the mic came in and I was told that they bought the remaining...
Thanks for the reply DB!
If you still use the 577B what's your opinion of it? How's does it sound and how's the quality of manuf.? Any problems wiring it for your radio(s)?

Found this Shure 577B noise-cancelling handheld dynamic mic recently - anyone ever hear of it or use one? https://www.fullcompass.com/common/files/23621-Shure577BUserGuide.pdf
It looks similar to the Palomar SL41 but it's not as elusive, however, it is way more expensive though ($160 +).

You could also try the Daiwa CN-801 (1.8-200MHz). It does SWR + AVG and PEP power from 1W - 2KW. Needs a 12V supply to accurately read on the PEP setting.

The AUTEK is a great meter I have one too...
I picked up a Ronald 10/12 M myself from Amazon. The quality inside is as seen on the YouTube vid's by Mike's Radio Repair. While it's not an Andy, I believe the quality will be just as good should you get one. I'm thinking of picking up another one I like the Ronald that much.
I'm gonna give it an eyeball since this all happened after being secured with big rubber bands to my center console cover. Never had it in any bracket so the mounting screws were never really tight.

Thanks everyone. I will check the board more carefully this time on the solder side, also plan on paying more attention to the audio amp joints. I'm gonna check the screws that attach the board to the chassis and re-tighten if loose and add solder to them as well. Also, the points where the disc...
I tried the radio while it was hooked up to the DOSEY (with the covers off) before and the thing had modulation; I could also measure some 'swing' on the PEP scale. I guess from my slightly moving components I hit a nerve. However, once the covers were back on the radio stopped modulating...
