Shure 577B Mic

Found this Shure 577B noise-cancelling handheld dynamic mic recently - anyone ever hear of it or use one? https://www.fullcompass.com/common/files/23621-Shure577BUserGuide.pdf

It looks similar to the Palomar SL41 but it's not as elusive, however, it is way more expensive though ($160 +).

MD

Yes and Yes

its more expensive than the Palomar mic for a reason.

BTW, the present palomar stuff is just a label stuck on truck stop junque, it has nothing to do with the actual Palomar company that used to be in S Calif years ago.

One of the original Palomar company owner descendants just uses the trademark

Thanks for the reply DB!

If you still use the 577B what's your opinion of it? How's does it sound and how's the quality of manuf.? Any problems wiring it for your radio(s)?

MD

It's a balanced-output mike meant for PA systems with a somewhat-lower input impedance, like a stage mike. Typically 150 ohms or so.

Output is on the green and white wires, the ground is only a shield and doesn't carry any audio current from the cartridge.

Can be rewired for a radio with unbalanced audio input that has one side of the audio grounded and only one side "hot".

Might sound a bit wimpy on some radios. The output voltage is a bit lower than the standard 500 or 600-ohm dynamic cartridge.
