    Skip?

11 meter still opens up about every other day although we are at the low point of the sunspot cycle. The sun still ionizes the atmosphere allowing long distance communications. I live in MI.

    Help me pick a radio

Although this is an older thread, buy the Kenwood TS-590SG. It has a great receiver and outperforms the ICOM IC-7300 by a lot.

    CB IN MEXICO ?

Nothing official for a CB band. If you go there with a CB radio just do not give out your address. You could be robbed just for the radio!

    756 Pro III vs. 7300 vs. ????

I never owned a FTDX3000. But per others it is a very quiet receiver & hears very well. Slightly less receiver performance per the specs vs a Kenwood TS-590SG, but I bet you would never hear that difference.

    756 Pro III vs. 7300 vs. ????

I bought a Kenwood TS-590SG & an ICOM IC-7300 at same time. The Kenwood has a far superior receiver. I could not make out weak signal SSB that was clear on the Kenwood. The IC-7300 has such a noisy receiver I had to set the noise reduction on 4 to hear average signal strength SSB signals. Below...

Regency Range Gain - Mods & Upgrades

I know not a lot of the tube type Regency Range Gain CBs are around. However, if you own one the transmit audio is less than great. The Regency has a wonderful 6AQ5 push pull modulator. Most modulators are single-ended, that is either a single tube 6AQ5 or 6BQ5 tube. Not many CBs have superior...

Slider will scan a channel. VFO would cover at least 100 channels or more

What the hell is this noise on 27.155?

I think it is the 2nd harmonic of a dirty transmitter on 13.577mHz.

    RECAPPING OLDER RADIO'S

I recap old tube type CB sets. I replace the power supply electrolytic capacitor and any old paper caps. They are subject to failure, but I seen many old 1960s capacitors still ticking!

EVER HAD A VISIT FROM THE FCC ???

Nope, But my friend in PT. Huron, MI had a visit back around 1979. They took the tubes out of a 10 tube Golden Falcon CB amplifier. They wanted the whole amp, but settled for the tubes. He was fine $1000 but was reduced to $200.

    HOW DO TUBES NORMALLY GO?

Most tubes slowly lose output at end of life. However, they maintain close to full output during their entire life. They drop off quickly like off a cliff.

    old Midland cb's

I had a Midland 77-838 with 40 channels. It has a good receiver with clear audio (better than Cobra 87GTL base) and clipping one resistor allows forward swing to a healthy 16 watts. It has clear transmit audio too. It drove my two small 6JM6 tube linear to 220 watts! Nice CB set.
