    Where to buy 10k...

The 2:1 bandwidth on mine is right at 2 Mhz. I have the 17" shaft model.

    Texas Star DX1200/1600

So, does anyone know the actual operating bandspread of these mobile amps? Are they only capable of operating 11/10 meters, or can they be used on lower freqs? I mean, will they work down to 20 meters, or 40 meters even?

    Help With High End Audio...

Sounds like an open in the audio line to me. Are you sure the pre amp is good?

    Capacitance Hat's Don't add Audio

Well, if they are for stationary use, why bother with the coil and cap hat in the first place? (never mind that placing the coil directly under the cap hat effectivly kills any benefit of a cap hat anyway) It's a stupid design IMHO.

    Capacitance Hat's Don't add Audio

Marconi, towards the end of the article look at figure 9-40 representing the actual measured results of load verticals with and without cap hats. You can see that adding a cap hat increases the amount of current distribution towards the top of the antenna. W8JI claimed that he measured not...

    Capacitance Hat's Don't add Audio

But this one is only $140 and the combo top hat/coil makes the radiation pattern more of an egg shape than omni directional doncha know!

$299 for what is basically a Starduster clone???!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am in the wrong business.

    Capacitance Hat's Don't add Audio

Thanks for the info Moleculo. I perused the HiQ website, and they sure make some impressive antennas! Until my budget improves I will have to stick to my cheapy experimental antennas, but I am having fun! Those fancy hoop type cap hats are beyond my fabricating skills I'm afraid, but I...

    Capacitance Hat's Don't add Audio

Actually more like this, except with a 3 or 4 foot whip on top. (that's about as high as I can get without banging overpasses and such) I am also going to redo the cap hat and put twice as many radials on it. I'm still in the experimental stage.

    Capacitance Hat's Don't add Audio

OK guys how about adding a whip on top of the cap hat? Would that negate the effect that the cap hat has on shortened, base loaded antennas?

    HF mobile antenna

So I added my Hustler MO-4 mast section, and went to Ace Hardware and bought some 3/8X24 threaded couplers to make the cap hat since my big aluminum mounting thingy is not going to work until I can beg/borrow/steal a drill press. The result so far is the lowest resonant frequency is now 5.27...

    TVI

How high is your 5/8 wave mounted, and what frequency are you xmitting on? Do you have a decent ground, RF and DC? How much power are you running, and have you set the mic gain so the ALC is within the operating parameters? What is the CRTC?

    HF mobile antenna

Great points Doc, I completely forgot to mention that I have ordered a Hustler MO-4 22" stainless shaft, so I will mount that on the coil, and my home made capacity hat on top of that. I actually thought of making the type of cap hat you are referring to, (I have been studying KØBG's website...

    HF mobile antenna

So I got the antenna mounted and tuned, (even with the somewhat cryptic instructions) for a couple of bands. I haven't had much time to fool with it, but found the resonant point for 40 and 10 meters. It comes with an expandable whip for the "stinger", very reminiscent of the old car...

    HF mobile antenna

Pictures you say? OK, will do. I am seriously thinking of homebrewing something like the Hot Rodz that DX Engineering sells Hot Rodz Capacity Hat Hustler Antennas Top Hat on top of the MFJ mini bug catcher. It's food for thought, but will have to wait for some warmer weather. Well, it's going...
