When any of my side mic radios has just the mic cord sticking out with some bogus strain relief or grommet. I change those over to a 4 pin standard jack. Also, regardless of the radios jack location, unless I convert them, DIN radios are not allowed in my shack either.

You can add that one to list of other ACT-1914 radios. I changed all of them to except 4 pin Cobra mics. Service manual and schematic to follow.

This is an example of what I do whenever I replace those Axial caps. I usually measure the distance between the mounting holes to approximate the lead bends before mounting the cap vertically. There should be plenty of room to mount those smaller caps vertically in your base. That is not always...
