Old School vs New School CBs: Which do you like ??

I usually use my my old Midland 13-885 when I visit 11 meters, but at times I switch on my old AM radios just to hear the sound and bring back memories. For a couple of days ago I put a bid on an old Midland 13-887 which was one of the first radios I saw that really caught my interest for radio.

Kenwood TS440S Too high voltage in VCO 5 (7.8v versus 5v)

@Ghetto you are doing real real good! You could also check, after you tested wide as @brandon7861 suggested, if switching for CF1 is taking place. The switching circuit for CF1 and CF2 are done in the same manner so it is only a matter of comparing voltages between these two before going...

Kenwood TS440S Too high voltage in VCO 5 (7.8v versus 5v)

Yeah that is a good one @brandon7861! What would happen if L40 is soldered (turned 180 degrees) with what should be TP11 towards D14? I find it highly impossible to see two different voltages on R146 and TP11 unless L40 is soldered wrongly, but looking at pictures of the PCB it seems that the...

Kenwood TS440S Too high voltage in VCO 5 (7.8v versus 5v)

Sorry! I was to fast and of course it is not RMS, it is 7,8 volts peak and DC lol! Well, this one was quite confusing!

Kenwood TS440S Too high voltage in VCO 5 (7.8v versus 5v)

Yes, my fault @brandon7861 and now I see; thank you for clarifying that! I did not take my time to look at the layout of the board but now I did. Well, I think you could be spot on here Brandon7861. @Ghetto measure ohms as in the picture of the PCB and please, only on the leg of R146 as well...

Kenwood TS440S Too high voltage in VCO 5 (7.8v versus 5v)

I was thinking about the rectified RF too but 7,8 volts RMS? I Really have a hard time to see that happen though. Good to see that you now have 4,68 volts on both sides of R146, but sadly still 7,8 volts on TP11 which seems to me, IMHO, impossible unless the wire you soldered is in the wrong...

What is your favorite Ham or CB Radio of all time?

I know exactly what you mean. No LED's with countless colors, just the beautiful lighting from incandescent bulbs which makes ones brain more happy and gives peace in mind. I do not mind adding some smell from varm tubes. I started with tube radios and I do have some of them in my shack as well...
