CB, VHF, UHF, and GMRS all in one

If you're just looking to listen, a wide band scanner should do what you want. A scanner isn't focused on just one band or frequency, but should cover from LF to UHF, maybe into SHF. I am not as well versed in the world of scanners as others, but this site and other sites have some well...

    Tax on Out-Of-State Purchases

You got lucky with that one. Anything I put in a cart in that price range gets tax in the $30s. Take it and run. And hope you're not on the hook for the difference. :p

    Tax on Out-Of-State Purchases

Remember, Texas allows other state taxing jurisdictions up to 2%. And the base Texas rate is 6.25%. https://comptroller.texas.gov/taxes/sales/#:~:text=Texas imposes a 6.25 percent,as well as taxable services. Based on the Constitution and several supreme court precedents, the tax rate is...

Placement of External Speakers in Vehicle

The audio signals are AC, not DC. The diodes will be a check valve in one direction, meaning they'll stop the positive voltage "swing" but not the negative, with relation to the cathode. In effect, he's made a crude half-wave rectifier. It will sound pretty bad. Also, connecting grounds from...

Placement of External Speakers in Vehicle

Sorry to necrothread this, but thought I'd toss this out there. This won't work the way you think, and if you're still active and curious, I'd be happy explain.

    Radio shuts off

Are you saying there is no ground wire? If not, it's trying to ground from the board through the chassis and through the small mounting screws. Not the designed operating procedure. :P Were the previous installs run this way? If not, I would suspect that. Run an actual ground wire to a...

Satellite dishes are protected by federal law but not amateur antennas?

My parents still live out "in the sticks" - no DSL, cable, etc. The terrain is only suited to mobile homes, so you're not far off. :p I guess that's why my dad has the latency problem he does. That's fine. But my dad got satellite service, and likely used PPV, without a land line at all...

Satellite dishes are protected by federal law but not amateur antennas?

I would contest this, at least nowadays. Personal experience - my dad uses satellite for internet, but doesn't have a working land line. When he got satellite TV setup, there wasn't a land line for that, either. That was early 2000s.

    HOUSTON HAMFEST MARCH 7TH

The Astrodome has been condemned for years and has been stuck in a state of limbo until a bunch of red tape is cleared (which may never be...). Looking forward to the Hamfest! Planning to attend as a VE - should have a good turnout.
