Golden Falcon 10-Tube Amp Schematics

Hi,

I'm looking for the Schematics for the Golden Falcon 10-Tube Amplifier, I'm not sure of the Model, it uses 10 - 8908 Tubes, the tubes are configured: 1 driving 3 driving 6, the last 6 are in a circle on the left side, the 1 sets by itself on the right, the 3 set in the center in a circle. If anyone can help me with this amp in any way, please contact me by phone or E-mail.

Thanks,

Mike - Nudget

The Golden Falcon on cbtricks.com is the four-by-4CX250B amplifier. I've never seen any data anywhere for the ten sweep-tube version. But I have seen a couple of them in the flesh, and they both had different tubes in them, NOT the 8908. My guess is that whatever tube was cheap that year was what they used in the sweep-tube model.

Every one of the "ceramic" Golden Falcon amplifiers I've seen is NOTHING like the published diagram. Power supply is totally, radically different.

Doesn't matter, since the original design was badly flawed. Poor relay timing would roach the relay contacts pretty soon. Uses a tube to key the relays, for that matter. Bad idea. The "step-start" function in the HV power supply would always burn out. Always. Fuses would then blow and get replaced with a fuse two or three times too big. More burned relay contacts result. And any original filter capacitors are guaranteed bad. Don't think they've built any since the early 80's. Electrolytics that are 20 or more years old just can't be trusted, no matter how good they check today.

Probably would have skipped replying to this thread, but I'm playing hooky from finishing a Golden Falcon 2000 with four 4CX250s. More like a "DIY amplifier kit" than an amplifier. Should rock when it's put back together. And no more fuses. Breakers only. Can't swap them for a 30-Amp fuse when they trip.

nomad, i am looking at a golden falcon 750 that has a delay when keying. If this tube driving the relay is a problem....would it not be better to make a new keying circuit bypassing the original design? the amp works out great in every other way. how much would it be worth?

thanks, davis
