Anyone here run 17 mobile? I hear a lot of stations mobile on that band. Even heard two mobiles, one on west coast other on east coast talking one night.

Just picked up a "Hamstick" type mobile antenna for that band at a local hamfest. Thing is huge, looks to be 10 feet or more. Will hook to TS480SAT or IC7000 and see how she plays.

17 seems like a fun band to run mobile.:D

I hear alot of folks running mobile on that band as well.17 Meters for me is a great band, usually has a low noise floor and when the band is open world wide contacts are very possable..... (y)

Hit Africa the other day 100 watts and a OFC windom

I run 480hx and a tarheel 2
17 is my favorite easy like 10m in mobile. Ive ran hamsticks and 17m when its open is good.

painfully slow but accurate ly typed from my phone

17m is a great band for mobile. The antennas will cover the entire band which is only 100 KHz anyway and the band is open a lot more than 10m. It has very similar propagation characteristics as 20m which means plenty of DX even with just 100 watts. Typical Hamstick style antennas are closer to 8 or 8 1/2 feet long than 10 feet but I suppose it depends on the true manufacturer but all of them work well on 17m.

Yeah 17 mobile is great. I use the Hi-Q and an Icom-7000 (and an Ameritron ALS-500 occasionally).

17 is my favorite band to work, for reasons already stated.

DX is great and the EU ops will usually pause and take contacts from mobile ops.

Yupper's lots o fun... SDA-100 screwdriver, 100w , Europe, Brazil, Japan, East Coast(US) big signal reports....
give it a try ..., you will like it...

One of the things I like about 17 meters is it is possable to almost know where the signals are coming from by the time of day....just before daylight to about 10 AM Europe ,Africa ,Russia, east coast of the states .......10 AM to about 3 PM all over the states and Canada ...3 PM to just after Dark ..west coast to Japan, Austraila ,Pacific islands.....

Well from what I have been noticing in my area at least
