11 meter is very quiet?

do tell us more please
All of my other rigs have Zero noise floor. Kenwood TS430S, Cobra 139XLR, Cobra 148GTL-Dx, SBE Console IV. No noise with no signal even at full volume. Quad6 shows 3-4S units and has lots of static and popping noises, even with DNR. I ran it on a car battery just to make certain it wasn't supply noise. Makes listening, especially with headphones, very uncomfortable. Unit sounds great on-the-air, but is a bitch to listen to.
I got it because of reviews, FM, zero channel capability, and great freq range. Static sounds like I'm in the middle of a thunderstorm. Worst of all, weak stations that I used to be able to copy are covered up by the racket.
I have a friend who is making me an FM adapter for my 139XLR. I will bite the bullet anf mod it for the "0" channels. Higher freqs: my Kenwood or 148GL-Dx.

Good News: E-skip season is in full swing up here! Conditions are wide open all across the west. Lots of contacts everywhere from Montana across to Southern California in the last couple of days. Utah absolutely smashing in right now.
I Love e-skip season! S9+ signals, way less channel congestion, and lots of time for long QSO's.

The bad news: The only F2 path I've had open in the last several weeks is to Australia and the South Pacific in the evening hours. No Europe, No South America, and very little from Asia. Last F2 contact I had was with JJ down in Medellin and that was some time ago. I'm suspecting long skip may be mostly done until next summer.......hopefully I'm wrong though!

Here's hoping the rest of you are all getting some DX from somewhere too!

This might be a silly question but do you have the noise blanker turned on with the High Cut and the AL ?

Go figure, sounds like you got kne that needs some adjustments but you're so far away. I don’t have those issues with the q6 pro but I also have a qt80 (q6 pro clone)that I haven't put through the paces yet. Now you've got me thinking that I better put it on the air to check.

Believe me I'm not crazy about menu based radios and the old game of Guess What's On My Mind ! It's about like Micro Soft and their game with Windows. What do they think we don't have enough to do but figure out their Bird Brain Ideas. They can take Windows 11 and stick it where the sun don't shine. It took a while to get rid of the garbage they threw at you with Window 10. I still haven't had time to update the firmware on my 2 Q6Pros because I don't want to make a mess with a hurry up job. And my 8 watt model uv5r is still waiting for me to load in the GMRS channels. Never a Dull Moment around here. LOL

BC Coyote,if I remember correctly,E-skip is another name for short skip contacts correct?? On a another note, just turned on the Ranger and it is absolutely dead quiet on 37 and 38 LSB up here in Central PA,I suspect that you are correct that the long skip is over mostly until this upcoming Fall when it should return back in full force so to speak, etc ..........

So what causes Back Scatter ? Is that another name for E-Skip
No, back scatter is different animal than e-skip.
Back scatter works on the same F2 layer as regular long-distance DX, but instead of your signal bouncing off the layer and continuing in the same general direction, it reflects back in the direction from which it originated.

So for example when I talk to my friend 428 on back scatter, my signal leaves my antenna, travels to some distant ionized F2 layer over the Pacific ocean somewhere, and then bounces back to my friends radio on the other side of the mountains from me. Normally we are unable to communicate due to those mountains and the distance, but back-scatter makes it possible, even if only rarely!

OK that makes sense. One time I had a Firestik Indoor antenna out on the lawn with a 4' x 4' sheet metal under it, just running a cobra 29 at 6-7 watts and spoke with a guy in Indiana. 2-3 states away and it shocked my grand-daughter & myself. A guy in another forum called it back-scatter. That's my story & I'm sticking to it. LOL
