Is this a NPC-mod or something else - Ranger RCI-69VHP (EPT690012D - Same as Ranger RCI-69 base)

Working on a RCI-69VHP (bought new from dealer in USA, I am located in Sweden). Same board as RCI-69 base, i.e. EPT690012D.

I see a strange mod where C112 has been replaced with a diode and a tantalum cap (as far as I can see):
EPT690012D - C12 replaced with diode and resistor (1).JPEG

EPT690012D - C12 replaced with diode and resistor (4).JPEG

Maybe the tantalum cap is original and a diode has been soldered in series?

I am wondering this is a true mod done by the dealer or is it like this from the factory?

Looks like a factory bodge to me. The Superstar SS158 schematic shows the diode and cap like this in the band select circuit. Probably only needed for a 12-band radio, and not a 6-band version made with the same pc board.
