Can someone explain why nobody uses upper sideband?

we still have plenty of operators - myself included - using relatively stock CB radios. They don't have VFOs, unlocked clarifiers, etc. Also, plenty of folks on here using CBs simply don't want to be transmitting where they shouldn't be (per FCC).
That's too bad. It would have been nice to have a WWDX channel or frequency, but for many of us on here the regular legal 40 is just too crazy and too busy and there simply isn't any viable place where we can all meet and expect to hear one another. A half channel or a freq up above 40 might have made that possible. Oh well.........

Also, I just gotta say..... I can't imagine living my life in fear of the FCC ! Sure glad we don't have to deal with that kind of shit in Canada. ISEDC (Canada's FCC equivalent) don't give two hoots about anything that goes on between 26 and 28 MHz. I once had a Canadian radio inspector show up at my door on an unrelated matter. He spied my highly modified Courier 40D base station and attached Palomar 200 amp and joked about my communications capabilities. He couldn't have cared less about it !

If you can join in. On Sunday Evening about 20:30 on 32 LSB. The Whisky Net comes on the air for check ins. The lead operator is in Butler, PA area. A good night is about 50 check ins. Just your CB handle, location and number. I still use Secret Squirrel, 321 in the Keystone, Washington PA. I can hit the operators barefoot Washington, PA to Butler, PA with my old Texas Ranger 696 FD1, She will be old enough to drink legally pretty soon. My first SSB radio, bought it refurb from Ranger by Sparky's CB Shack, back when we still could go to the Mall and shop. Tune in just to confirm the world did not go completely to heck.

27.555 USB. I am moving to live with my 86 y/o father. Mom passed a few weeks ago. However, its new antenna system time. Think I am going to mount A99 to the shed. I live just south of Pittsburgh.
Sorry for your loss, I am sure your father is greatfull for all you do. My mother in-law is 94 and recently has been put on hospice care. We have now moved down the street to live with her in her time of need. Stay strong and more power to you, my friend.
Chris

I'll check that out for sure! That's around 1730 PST and we usually still have conditions at that time. Back in the 1980's 32LSB was the main call channel for the Radio Canada club in the Vancouver Island / Gulf Islands area where I live. That was a long time ago now...........

I have to eat some crow. Today in the mobile on LSB I heard traffic all the way down to ch 33. And the leaves keep falling and I'm hearing more chatter. The solar site said today 10-12 meter was only suppose to be fair. Seems like the change over is starting to be Hopping an Popping.

Have you been skipping your medication??

I recall talking to those folks a few times in the past. Glad to hear that they are still up and running. I'm going to make the effort to catch them. Thanks for the tip.

There are still a few pockets of local SSB traffic on CB. It might be helpful if folks chimed in with information on them. We could put together a list for our WWDX group here. It could help all of us know where to focus our efforts.

Have you been skipping your medication??
No not really. No I recently lost my insurance right before I was schedule for knee replacment so that is awakward. I am glad your concerned though. Cost of medications is crazy high. Not sure what I will do for insulin or high blood pressure medication might just have to fast a lot!

Sometimes in the past I would take my Ambien and shoot past my 5 minute window and rant a bit. I have not done that in a while. Maybe have few too many shots of Burbon if out of sleeping pills and get a little salty. That said other than being a bit too blunt or not polite enough my opinion changes little just how I present it.

If not for the PTSD I would not need the Ambien. PTSD was not addressed as well as it is today which lead to sleeping issues. Cognative Behavioral Therapy was not practiced much in the past compared to today. You have allow yourself to become vunerable to relax and fall off to sleep naturally it is an issue with PTSD. Praise God my son shortly after getting back from Syria prob. 1 year maybe 2 years after recognised a need for this. His PTSD not as sever as mine was. I would much rather be able to get a decent knight sleep with out Ambien. Even with it I do not sleep well.

To be blunt one can operate on any of the FCC 40 channel on CB that one wants to on USB or LSB and everything else is just false and or ignorant in the USA. Once off the range and breaking the law does anything really matter at that point?

I would ask what I said that was not on point factualy? Is it intelligent to avoid USB? Is their a FCC rule prohibiting the use of USB on FCC designated 40 CB channels? Is there a technical limitation inheirent to to USB that is not present in LSB? So me suggesting it was ignorance or low IQ was not actualy so out of line as to suggest I am off my med's or giving out some wildly out of line suggestion! Ignorance is mostly about being poorly informed on a subject matter. Low IQ would immply that even if informed one would not be able to act on said information classic knowledge vs wisdom situation. Ignorance in large part is a matter of choice but none of us can control our IQ that is a lottery like situation.

Just because I am blunt and to the point does not mean I am trying to be inflamatory or that I am wrong.

I should have instead spread more misinformation about how back in 1979 Big Daddy Diamond Diaper and the Adult Diaper Net on the East Coast set up a gentlemans agrement not use USB........Maybe toss in some real players like Prime Minister and Tech9 and some other big players just so sound important or relavant! All of the above is nonsense. LOL

P.S. I normaly do not take any Ambien until after 11:30 Eastern Time and my alcohol consumption does not really pick up usually until we are deeper into Winter or near a national holiday. I know it was just Columbus Day but where I live only government employe's get that off the rest of us have to work!

P.P.S. I too am sorry for your loss squirrel. My mom and dad are not in great health and I am going to be very broken hearted when I lose either of them!

When I was on 11m I used USB much more than LSB because that eas where the action was. Technically they are identical and neither offers an advantage over the other except when close to another station frequency wise.
keeping on topic of thread, some folks didn't like the sound of usb. technically identical.. i am not challenging that whatsoever. can do you know why with older galaxy/ rci stuff, usb sounds more like AM than lsb? large change in pitch when changing modes. i always thought if both were not used equally, the radio would go out of alignment :)

LOL you do realize that you just described a 20m DX pile up to a TEE don't you? Check out any DX'pedition and it sounds the same. 14.195 can be a real zoo. :p
But they are actually making a contact & Not Screaming, Playing a stereo, Cussing somebody out, Playing with noise toys & other crap. Not even the same at all.

That change in pitch only happens if the radio is mis-aligned. They should sound the same or at least very very close. My 5555N2, my 6666, and my 148GTL all sound the same on USB and LSB, but my Navaho 457 has more treble on LSB and so does my TRC-449.

Doing the frequency alignment after a clarifier mod is where I have often had trouble getting LSB and USB to sound the same. The one thing to be aware of is that if this condition exists on receive then it also exists on transmit and your transmitted LSB audio will also be slightly higher or lower tone than USB.
