11 meter is very quiet?

Conditions today were phenomenal in my part of the world. I was only on a total of about an hour and steadily raked them in from all over the country but propagation making no sense. It was a pileup for sure but very workable with a little added "POWA".

Hope to catch some of you on there tomorrow.

I've been looking over a few years worth of posts. It seems to me that the most successful days we've had promoting the informal WWDX CB nets were when we: (1) did it once a month and (2) pushed the LSB 16 option. I'm not saying other channels didn't work, but only that this combination seemed to work the best.

The other issue that sticks out to me is the 2nd frequency. We've tried LSB 35, USB 40 and a few others. I'm not sure if one is any better than the other - although 40, 36 and 35 seem to offer less congestion under equal propagation conditions.

What if we did something like last weekend of every month? We'd dedicate Saturdays to LSB 16 and Sundays to either USB 40 or something on 35.

Thoughts?

I'll speak for myself and myself only. Channel 35 and above would be much more doable in my case. 16 just hasn't ever cut it where I'm located because of the Am splatter or propagation just sucks there for me. 40 seems to be used more than 35 so if it were a vote I'd say 35 lsb.

Just my thoughts for whatever it's worth.

I definitely get bleed-over from AM17 and AM 15. But my skip log shows that the frequency where I have made the most contacts over the long haul is LSB 16. Remember also that some guys are still running those old 23 channels sets. LSB 16 lets them stay in the game.

Food for thought.

Locals (a real nice bunch) are firmly entrenched on 16am in my area but I still check 16lsb every time and make contacts once in a great while if the locals aren't talking. 40 (either side) in my area is either crickets or half the time when dx is rolling someone's on AM or FM and wipes the channel out. 35 is pretty quiet.

I did manage to reach out and touch base with Mississippi today for the first time ever with my McKinley an KL-203 P in my Expedition. That state for some reason isn't a big player for me around here. Of coarse I did Florida also but Florida & Texas seem to big hitters around here. It was nice to see the solar site say Good conditions for 10-12 meter after several ( 4-5 ) bad days. Looks like a big winter storm blowing in for Sunday-Monday so we will see how that plays out.

11 meters was definitely hot today. I took off at noon and had a chance to get some radio time in. I seem to be all over the map with contacts. Before I shut it down, I went to USB 555 and made a few more contacts. Aruba, Brazil, and then I hear John, @c316buckeye coming back to me from the buckeye. We had a nice long uninterrupted qso. Thank you, my friend. It was good talking to you again.

I normally catch @BC Coyote there as well, but no luck this time.

Sorry I missed you! I've had only an hour or two on the radio all week. Life gets busy with other things sometimes.....

I'm also dealing with another noisy powerline issue. Fortunately this one is a couple blocks away and is only affecting my A-99 vertical (which I only use for local talk). My delta loop that is my main DX antenna is horizontally polarized and is whisper quiet. It's astonishing to flip the antenna switch back and forth...... 0 Noise on the delta, flip to A-99 and S3 or 4 of hash! Amazing how much quieter a horizontal loop is vs a vertical 1/2 wave!

Well I had some good contacts today on lsb 37 and up on 430 lots of Ireland coming in early morning actually they were booming in but too many qso’s so I didn’t bother to call cq. I could’ve easily reached anybody in Ireland this morning though the way the conditions were.

Mostly just eastern half of the country and Canada today I keep my 4 element yagi pointed out that way. England was coming through as well. There was a lot of qrm as the morning progressed.

Other than that, yeah the conditions have been kind of wanky did get a Hawaii qso later before I shut it down and had other things to do
