Just made contact with California and Hawaii. How did I get Hawaii with my Sirio 4 element pointed at the Northwest Corner? I don't know, probably my excellent operating skills...
Beats me, I put my Sirio 4 element up on about 12ft of pole so I could set the swr and it is pointed SE and the first contact was in Minnesota.Just made contact with California and Hawaii. I was listening to USB 555 when he came booming in and sounding top shelf. Thanks Greg! You've got a hell of a nice station.Just made contact with California and Hawaii. Thank you, Brother!! You were sounding mighty tall, yourself until conditions pulled you away. It was quite a surprise to hear you up there. It takes a strong signal to break that noise level I'm dealing with. We'll do it again, my friend!!I got Hawaii today. He sounded like he was crusing through my neighborhood. is your McKinnly quiet? mine is noisy as my old ef johnson 123a .im about to remove it from my big truck n put my washed out screen bearkitty 980 back in the truckDecided to make a country run North of me this morning so I put the K40 on the roof of my Expedition and installed my McKinley with my KL-200 P. Conditions weren't that good in the beginning but on the way home they seem to pick up a little. I managed to make a contact with 307 in Wyoming so it lifted the spirits a little especially because I think that was my first ever for Wyoming. But the solar site said poor for 10-12 meter the same as the last 4 days. I guess I should run to the radio room and try the old StarDuster. Pardon my mistake I said RUN when I should have said HOBBLE & WOBBLE ! LOL
Yesterday it seem to be noisy but I would want to run it a few more times to give it the final verdict. But I have 2 each of this unit which can be run with your mobile or base and they are wonderful for cleaning up noise. They are pricey but worth it if you hate noise and work with any radio.is your McKinnly quiet? mine is noisy as my old ef johnson 123a .im about to remove it from my big truck n put my washed out screen bearkitty 980 back in the truck

The first one I have because they are small and can fit almost anywhere and you can use your own external speaker. But like they say, Everybody to their own notion.
The thing is the West Mountain Radio processor works on Every radio so it can make a good radio even better. And Lord knows I have enough radios to try it on ! LOL The second one is for my enclosed trailer when and if I get it ready to be a travel trailer. I have a old buddy out in Idaho I'd like to trip out and see before him or I pass on. I gotta put that thinking cap on and figure out how to mount a 102 whip in the center of the roof and be able to lay it down for traveling. I know this thread is ancient but I had CB radios in New York and every channel was going like gangbusters 24/7/365 especially after Christmas. Now I live in South Florida monitoring CB radio with a (don't laugh) Uniden 355N scanner with a uhf whip and receive channel 6 from California like they are across the street. Well thanks for reading and have a nice day.I live in rural area have not heard a soul in days?
And I thought I should explain my choice of the McKinley is because of it's physical size and weight. Most of my installs most would consider unorthodox because of modern vehicle construction with too much plastics and no solid place to mount a radio I do a floor pedestal so the radio rests against the center console on the passenger side with the floor plate large enough to withstand the forces of normal driving. The McKinley isn't as top heavy so less chance of rocking. I only had 1 radio tip over on me and that was because a turkey ran a stop sign and I slammed into his side. And the funny thing is that was my first Cobra 29 NWST and that radio still works like a champ and I can't get rid of it because it was my first radio getting back into radio again. But it is also fast and easy to change radios without hacking up the vehicle. Just my HO ! PS Plus the wooden pedestal gives you more place to mount your amp & accessories.after what mckinly cost spent too much to buy more add on stuff to a mederoce radio. sad in thise era we get hi price low quality products.
jump in n set up a base n shoot some skip. glad you can hear on. my scanners are scratchy monitering 10 and 11 metersI know this thread is ancient but I had CB radios in New York and every channel was going like gangbusters 24/7/365 especially after Christmas.
