So according to a sales rep from one of the distributors as well as a couple of utube videos, Galaxy radios is no more. The rumors have been going for a while now but it seems that it's now really the case.

The wholesaler still has some 2547's and 959b's, I'm considering a 2547 just for sentimental value.

Times have changed quite a bit since 2020

They'll never really die, just keep drifting farther and farther from center slot.

One less company making drifty substandard outdated radios. I won't be shedding a tear for Galaxy. They had years and years to pull it together but they just kept churning out the same junk. In the tech world, you either innovate or you perish and Galaxy choose the second option.

CB and 11 meter radio is going to be around for a while yet......companies like Quixiang seem to be doing just fine because they are producing decent quality radios with innovative new features.

I can remember everyone wanting a 5 Star Galaxy.
There was 2 brothers in New York that had ranger build the planet series of export radios like the Pluto, the Saturn ect but they had zero warranty, nothing.
Can't remember the name
Sold as is export radios and the hardcore cb guys all loved them warranty or not.
I bought a new Pluto and thought it was great.
But then some new guys came along and offered export features, good looking radios
And a warranty.
Not only a warranty, but they were extremely good at honoring that warranty even if the radio had been expanded.
They were good at providing that information and support.
Years ago Ray, a member here GTRS , was the official Galaxy Radio Tech Support answering questions and providing troubleshooting for users.
Ranger started there own line with the 2900 line and the 2950 caught on with the SSB market.
Galaxy was happy to cater to the AM and over the road driver and that worked out great for a long time...
But then they just got
stuck in a rut.
They fizzled out at the 2950DX and from there just kept building drifty versions of 12 band radios with bigger and bigger amps bolted on the bottom.
Times changed and now other guys are offering better radios, with features like programmable channels, more frequency coverage, noise reduction.
Not only that but they listened to end users and made changes in the firmware to accommodate the user and revisions.

Oh and they call it a QT 80 and it has a warranty......

Good riddance! I just aligned a 959b for a local (that wants to buy it from me) and all I can say is, NEVER AGAIN (and I'm glad to see it go)!

The slugs are so sensitive that it will convince you telekinesis is real.

I don't even know how to go about fixing that. Would I add more series resistance to reduce Q? I noticed these slugs are almost centered, maybe I need to change capacitors to get those slugs out so they are about 30% in when on frequency? Split the coil into two, one fixed and one smaller to trim (not really practical here)?

And then that frequency counter board soldered to another board on edge is just dumb. Also, I barely bumped the connector for the counter signal and it tore traces off the back of the board. And I can hear that EL driver too (not from speaker, just magnetostriction or whatever). Looks cool, sounds like it would put my dog through hell.

There is a level of finesse required, but don't breathe on the circuit, and gotta hold your mouth right too.

The pll mixer ic next to the cans, if there is a Korean part in there, a KIA6410 instead of the toshiba TA7310, the Korean part drifts more and is more temperature sensitive and a swap will help some, but this whole circuit is a temperature drift nightmare.

Let's not forget that the PCB copper is so thin, it cracks, right around the solder joints, just enough where it breaks the connection, but can't see it.

Galaxy should have moved on from Ranger a long time ago. I think they were better than that and should not have put up with them and the crappy overpriced junk they make.

I think most here knew, QX would take over the market and it appears, just that has occurred.

Does anyone know if you can replace the 2290 in a galaxy dx 93t twin turbine with a 2sc2879 red dot? If so, what would have to be tuned?
