Galaxy radios is dead

I'm sure it wasn't Galaxy's customer service that hurt them. What impressed me the most other than the large meters, was a call to Galaxy, John, would result in someone answering the phone, and getting some real help. Cathy (If I remember correctly) was always pleasant on the phone and always offering to make things right and always seemed genuine about finding solutions. If a message was left, John would call back. I have had quite a few sessions with John, test equipment hooked up and personal instruction of what to look for and where, resulting in a "CB Repair Telecall", that always ended well. That's why I have so many Galaxy radios. I remember one time calling John about a Texas Ranger Freedom One, and getting the same stellar service. He didn't have to, and I'm sure was a busy man....but that's what Galaxy used to be, at least in my view.
Agree
John always returned calls, he was always straight up about anything I asked him, both on the Galaxy and Texas Star side, same with Mike.
I remember when I first met Mike and invited him to join the forum.
I really think Ranger is a large part of the equation.
If whoever is left at Galaxy would open a dialogue with QX....
We know that they are capable of building something along the lines of the Aries II

I paid over $400 from HRO in 1991 for my RCI2950 I remeber that by 1993 once non-Ham radio outlets started to carry them and I do not mean the refurbished units either price dropped down to $249. That was the direction the industry should have followed.

The owners of Galaxya nd Ranger should havebeen kicked inthe testicles like the Gym Coach from Bevis and Butt-Head on MTV for their greed over time.

The idea of having 12 AM only radio's and 1-3 SSB units or vis/versais likewise stupid thinking! Tossing stupid garbage like reverb, echo, robot voice was stupid and they should have given more serious tech like NPC, Aysemetric Modulatio, DSP, eSSB, better SSB stability. Instead of more bands give us continious tunning, dual VFO's, better adjacent channel rejections, built in EQ on RX and TX. Instead of giving up a 4 transistor bipolar amp bolted to the bottom they should have given us better price point, quality control, bandwidth, digital mode compatability and seperate amp's at a better price point. Digitaly controlled amps that would not let you blow them up! LDMOS amplifiers.

I wanted to give them my money Galaxy and Ranger but they refused to build anything I wanted. I am glad their gone. I would rather every single 2 way radio company fail and disapear from existance than continue to have them build and push garabge I do not want at a price point that is not worth it. I do not care if John the Baptist ran the company if they wont build what I want I do not care how good the people are at the company or that they are Christians or Americans. First they have to build something I want then they have to sell it at a price point I think is inline with what is for offer and then they have to listen to me the customer and constantly improve the product. By improve I do not mean find ways to produce it for less either that fine as long as quality does not suffer and durability does not suffer. Even better would be for it to be built in the USA. The Price for some of these units would make sense if they where American made and used quality componets and had actual quality control!

It would be great if the FCC allowed a digital mode for CB for data, txt and voice that allowed for some encryption standard. This would increase range, reduce noise, improve coverage, improve signal rejection. This is not 1970's with so few people using it the audio bandwidth on the analog CB should be much wider to improve fiedelity. IF they are not going to give us some digital modes might as well expand the audio bandwidth to improve sound quality.

There is so much that the industry could do though that they did not do that they deserve to fail at this point. Why should I care about Texas Star if they are just going to churn out more garbage? I can purchase their old garbage on auction sites or pay a builder to build me garbage just like Texas Star. I do not want anymore trash I want new designs, new technology, at better price point compared to the past garbage that came before! Texas Starneeds to make an LDMOS base amp for me that hits legal limit at a decent price. Not some POS that is using garbage transistors and $1 per watt or higher price point along with all chinese parts inside!

Has anyone considered that it might be the current state of global commerce and specifically importing things into the USA that ultimately crushes Galaxy's ability to generate a profit?

We all know how and why "export radios" make it to us in the first place.

Things have changed recently (can anyone say 'Tariff'?) and i would imagine that a CB wholesaler being asked to take on whatever percentage of an increase in the cost of the radios pretty much put the kibosh on any future deals.

LC
Galaxy problems started years before any real tariffs were enacted. Quality control has been an issue for years but a bigger issue is the Galaxy/Ranger relationship. [Note] I started to write juicy stuff and decided to back-space an entire paragraph. No need for drama. Suffice it to say, Ranger has been directly competing with their own customer (Galaxy) and that has taken up more market share, from Galaxy, than any other brand. I certainly don’t blame them. Ranger is far more motivated to expand their line than an aging company with dwindling product lines, exacerbated by COVID supply chains. Nail-in-coffin.

On another note:

Nevermind. I just backspaced another full paragraph.

Is the Superstar 676 made by Anytone?

I'll have to find the video, but sources say it is not and that it's a direct copy of the qixiang made Stryker 447hpc2. It's not even made in china. It has a ranger ept board number as well. Kind of a cheap shot if you ask me.

There isn't even a software for the ranger made copy.

Does Anytone even make anything? Looks like the back of my Radioddity QT80.
Qixiang is the company that makes Anytone.
CRT, Radioddity, and Stryker pay to have the Anytone radios made with their own branding. The Stryker 955HPC+ is exactly the same inside as the Anytone 5555N2 it just has a different shell and those hideous blue LEDs.

Edit to add: Looks like Super Lid beat me to it!

How odd that the QT80 vs the Quad 6 usually favors Radioddity for price. :)
