Aquario RP70 “Mini” AM/FM/SSB Radio With NRC

I think it would require disassembly/desoldering to get to that side of the board, and that is beyond my pay grade. And while the radio wasn’t too expensive, I don’t want to screw with things too much. You know the old saying…”if it ain’t broke, we can fix that”.

This Luiton radio does have differences from the Aquario models that I have seen on YouTube. The Luiton has some different menu options, so I guess there have been some hardware and firmware changes. My board has ‘MiniSSB v1.4’ printed on it.

Also of note, my radio and microphone have no brand name on them, nor does the box the radio comes in. The spot on the case where you would normally see a label with a model number and serial number has no label there.

I have a buddy who should get his next week. I can compare notes with him, but he ordered it the same day I did, so it will probably be like mine. I guess the extra shipping fee I paid got me to the head of the line.

Just for reference purposes, here are photos of my Luiton LT-310SDR board…

and a screenshot of the Aquarion RP-70 board from a YT video called Malta Telecom-PY2LH, which was posted around March of 2026. Obvious differences in board design.

Perhaps Lawrence Lin can advise why my Luiton radio has the wire jumper and cut traces? Will Luiton modify the design of future radios to avoid this workaround ?

I want to issue a correction to an earlier post regarding the changing of bands on the LT-310SDR.

I had said that I had to add an included jumper to get the band options, but I was wrong. I was not performing the power up sequence properly.

You must hold the PTT button on the mic, and hold the power-on button, and continue to hold both for a second or two. There will be no power up ‘beep’ and the screen will remain indicating the band coverage (10-12H-CB-HF-BR). You can then release the buttons and turn the dial to select the option you want, and then press the power button in again.

I was not holding the power-on button long enough to get the options.

I don’t have a facebook account but a buddy sent me photos from Panic Attack’s FB feed. He disassembled the LT-310SDR and got photos of the underside of the board. He also has a video or two he has done on the radio. Since they are public posts, I was able to view them.

If you try to remove the circuit board from the microphone case, exercise extreme caution, as the mic element is really tight in the molded cup it sits in. If you use a tad too much force, the element will snap off at the tiny leads. Ask me how I know :sneaky:

Unfortunately, BestCB states they do not sell the microphones for the radio separately, so I have a mic element coming from the good bots at Amazon, that I hope will work.

Also, Panic Attack made a mic adapter cable and put the pin out on his FB page, so I am going to try that as well. Like I said in a previous post…if it ain’t broke, we can fix that.

Change the small eletret to a common grounded one, sound MUCH BETTER. Ask me i know haha

I dont really want one but I should have one. That is looking small even by my standards. It looks perfect though to toss in a pocket! Looks like it would be perfect for travel use.
 
I think we should all count ourselves lucky to have something this small on the market that has SSB.

I am glad it is not in redneck blue not to be confused with Egyptian blue. If it is going to have a large display it might as well be designed to be looked at without destroying your eyesight, night vision, sleep paterns and depth the way redneck blue does. Red, orange, that soft yellow/off white, and green are all better that blue.

I am kind of old fashioned I like electronics designed to be looked at by a human for hours at a time with out eye fatigue. It is bad enough I need bifocals now no need to suffer idiotic design as well!

This looks like someone put real thought into it!
