got the cart before the horse . got the FTDX10 (mars modded) from gigaparts a few weeks ago because they had $100 off and their 10 yr waranty for $10 . i have no ham experience and i'm only interest in SSB/voice at this time . i see many study courses recommended on you tube and while i think YT is a good source for general info on products , i rely on forums for expensive decisions and trechnical info . there's lots on info on on YT and forums on the ftdx10 but not much on forums about suggested study programs .
so what do you folks recommend ?

I used ARRL website stuff with question pool and practice exams, along with the hardcopy study guides found on Crapazon. Not particularly an ARRL fan and not a member but their stuff made the exams easy for me. With a bit of study and practice exams I found passing was not at all difficult. YMMV.
7 3 and good luck.

Great choice of radio by the way. Be sure to put up a good antenna to use it with to not waste all the potential that rig has.

I used HamTestOnline to get my Technician, General, and Extra, but that was 18 years ago. Paid one price and got all three. They have changed the pricing model since then and now you pay for each license level and your access only lasts 3 months.

As you take the practice tests the program focuses on your weak areas, drilling questions you get wrong more often than ones you get right. When your answer is wrong you can click a link to the teaching material to understand the topic and learn the correct answer.

Note that there is a new Technician test effective effective July 1, 2026 That means the question pool is changing.

P.S. Great Radio!

Try starting a new thread in the Amplifier section and asking the question, more people will see it to respond.
