    yaesu ft-891 and ATAS 120A

I read the 891 has different CAT commands than the rest of the line. Seems like Omni-rig would have added it already though. Will have to check this software out. Thanks for the link! 73, Brett

    Ultimate CB Base Station

I had a Taylor, but was only running a stock Robyn T-240D and D-104. It did pretty good for what it was! 73, Brett

102" ss whip. is it still the best

I get the wrong terminology, but those things do look a lot like a big honkin' capacitor. Supposed to be great high Q antennas, but man are they Texas large. 73, Brett

102" ss whip. is it still the best

I think he's talking about the Texas Bug Catcher style antennas. 73, Brett

102" ss whip. is it still the best

I have been running a 102" for a couple of years now. Recently let my neighbor drive my pickup truck, and he told me he had never noticed the antenna until he drove my truck! 73, Brett

    Need ideas

I knew the "why buy an amp when you should optimize your antenna" question would come up. But that's not what you asked. :D For me, it is because I have compromise antennas. I can make contacts with 500 watts that I could never make with 100. 73, Brett

Congratulations on getting your ticket! As for tuning over people, it is rude. Buy a dummy load! I picked up a cantenna from Ameritron/MFJ and it works great. Tons of amp options out there, but I would recommend the Ameritron AL-80B. Single 3-500z tube, a real workhorse of an amp, and will...

    756 Pro III vs. 7300 vs. ????

I have the FTdx3000 and love it. The receiver is great, in my opinion. The waterfall display is ok, but not as crisp and clear as the Icom displays. I am using the rsp-1 on the rx out port as a panadapter, and it works fantastic. Prices are very low for this rig now. It is a big radio, too...

    Basic Ham Radio Operation Question

The most I do is switch between using my attenuation button vs. using my rf gain for best reception, or use my shift if someone parks too close. Like the other guys, once everything is set, I pretty much leave it alone. I put off getting my ticket for several years, mostly because I was...

    756 Pro III vs. 7300 vs. ????

I would tap the IF for the Pro III, buy a RSP-1, and use it with SDR Console 3, SDR Uno, or HDSDR for your panadapter. All of which are free programs. You can use Omni-Rig to tie it together so it sync's with the transceiver. The Pro III is still a really great rig, and I (like Mike) prefer a...

    yaesu ft-891 and ATAS 120A

Mine did the whir thing when I had a strap from the mount directly under the antenna where it screws onto the SO-239 and mounted to the to the body inside the trunk. Took it off, and it works fine now. 73, Brett

I really like mine, despite some menu weirdness. Good reports on it, and pretty hard to beat for the money. 73, Brett
