Glad to see there are guys actually using these and testing them. I'm just sorry that it took nearly 8 years from my original post. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

I think Bob85 nailed it... signal and readability. Although I have NEVER heard anyone say that after a signal report. And Blackcat360 is correct... EVERY signal is 5/9 on a contest weekend. Again? Again, again? Prefix please? K5AB...? Ok, K5ABC, you are 5 and 9! :ROFLMAO:

Yeah, mine struggled sometimes when I had it in the Camry hybrid, and that was with a very good ground via braid. No issues whatsoever in my truck. I knew what I was getting with it when I bought it (did my research). I'm the same way... casual user, like to talk "local" on 40. Sure has been...
I'd rather just slap a CB in than to mess around with that. I have an old Uniden Pro520xl and Wilson 5000 for that.

Here's me talking to Little John. FT-891, Atas 120A, stock mic using a bit too much compression, and have the parametric eq set up for punch. He's down around Canyon Lake, TX (New Braunfels area), and I was just west of Texarkana.

I had a friend back in the 70's that ran them stacked. According to him, the rear rejection was better than his Moonraker IV. Also, there's a thread on here somewhere from years ago... one of the Needlebender guys in Canada stacked 4 of them on a truss setup. Pretty crazy. Unfortunately, he...
Looks like the price has gone up since I bought mine, but that was like 5 years ago.
There's bound to be some good quality Chinese stuff out there for a lot less money.

I had a Rode USB mic that worked really well. More of a recording setup via computer, but still... I think it ran close to 100 bucks, came with a stand and pop filter.

I considered buying a 3000... these days they are pretty cheap. But you are spot on, the Firewire thing killed it for me, too. I'm happy with my FTdx3000 and RSP1 setup anyway. :)
